Guest August 14, 2015 August 14, 2015 Knowing me, I'd find some way to fuck up the casting and explode the original kit. But really. I can see where this kind of thing comes from, absolutely, but I feel like it almost defeats the purpose. Something like the Astray or Rouge (Or the, likely, even more difficult Unicorn Gundam) is meant to test your mettle. You're spending obscene amounts of money on a model kit, after all. That might seem like even more reason to make copies, but to me it seems like a challenge. One shot to make the perfect Gundam. If you screw something up, you're punished big-time. Also I'm not gonna add another several weeks just painting all of the new cast pieces, aha. Fairly sure many of them are already in the correct color. At any rate, spending $200 on a model robot is already stupid beyond all belief, especially when it's possible I'll drop something and fuck it up in the first couple days, but it's soo cool. Regardless, I still need Gundam Markers, clear-coat model paints, regular model paints, model tweezers, model file, clipper-dealies, and a lot of practice before I can even think about taking the Astray on. I'll give it a year or two, but oh, I'll be ready when I do. I just wish I knew someone locally who could take me on as their student, in the meantime. Alas, probably nobody who's actually even seen Gundam around here. We only get the weebs that are cringe and buy excess amounts of pocky at the mall, the.. Awful, awful people.. Totally making a Gunpla thread once I get my first one in, though. To keep you lovelies updated with progress and experiences. I'll be working on the first couple with my brother, as he has more theoretical building-knowledge of Gunpla than I, and then I'd like to take some on by myself. Probably mostly High-Grade, so simple stuff, and a Master-Grade somewhere after a while. A few more of those, and then Astray.. Nnng, I think Christmas shopping for me just got a lot easier for the fam.
Stevie August 14, 2015 August 14, 2015 Well goddamn I had no idea how pricey models are, that's some serious commitment. We're all gonna make it brah.
Guest August 17, 2015 August 17, 2015 Good luck to you with model building! It's always fun to see someone find a new hobby and just throw themselves into it. It makes me feel better about humanity. Rose City Comic Con is coming up here in Portland. I went to the con last year, and didn't have much in the way of excitement happening. I kind of just wandered around and looked at vendors. I'm thinking that I might try attending again this year, but I'd like to prepare more. Has anyone around here been to cons and had a good time? What should I do there? Should I bring anything? I'd kind of like to make some friends - how do I meet people there? How do I con properly?
Guest August 18, 2015 August 18, 2015 Never been to a con, but a buddy goes to one every year. Sadly, he's pretty timid, and doesn't make buds past the ones he goes with. I imagine it's not an easy environment in any event. The con in question however, is a pony-con, and the people he goes with, are connected to a ton of influential members in the pony community, as well as people who work on the show. So good times are had no matter what. But yeah, the other, average con-goers are usually as awkward as anyone. Is it going to be a multi-day thing, or just one? Best advice is to go at it with people you already know who might know other people? I guess? And also don't blow your money until the last day, if it's a multi-day con. Everyone knows that one, though. Also shower and wear deodorant. The rule that shouldn't have to be said that is, lately. Fuckin' people. Buy plushies and roll around in them, fun-factor is automatically maxed aaahhh
Adamaï August 18, 2015 August 18, 2015 I always got that one friend that smells like a mix between onion and garlic, because he never showers. I don't want to know how a crowd in a con smells O.o
sushi August 20, 2015 August 20, 2015 I've kinda been learning about musical theory lately, but it's not something I understand very easily, being as I don't really play music. I had very brief stints with guitar, hammer dulcimer, and recorder, but all of those were more than 15 years ago. So what do you guys think about this 432/440 Hz controversy? I'm listening to (something I hear a lot at 440 Hz because streaming music keeps me from getting disconnected from the office network, and nobody has ever objected to classical) and I'm really not noticing the difference. Is this something you guys notice? "Some things have to be believed to be seen." - Ralph Hodgson

Is this something you guys notice? As a fellow musician this is really interesting. I did a quick Google search on the controversy to bring me up to speed and listened to a few comparison videos, and there is a very subtle difference. It's so slight that just a year ago (before I started arranging pieces for my keyboard) I wouldn't have been able to notice it. To me the 432 Hz versions seem "gentler" (it's not the right word, but it's the best one I can come up with) and it's easier to feel the emotion in the piece, something I've always had a difficult time with on older music. -Einulf Current System: Ziya (Formerly Einulf), Mizan, Aura, Dark, Lucia, Rand, Jason, Akira Here's our Tumblr, if anyone wants it
Kiahdaj August 20, 2015 August 20, 2015 I can definitely hear a difference from what I remember from that piece. I felt that it sounded "off"—but unless I heard the same orchestra perform with the same conductor and so forth, tuned to 440 and 432 Hz respectively, it can easily be written off as one of those differences. I always thought it was just a silly conspiracy. I looked into it again a bit, just now, and read the first decent argument towards 432's "superiority", and that is that the different pitches, when based off of 432 Hz, result in whole numbers. And considering Hz are based off of seconds, and seconds are based off of the earth's rotation, it would seemingly imply some kind of resonance with nature. Still hard to really quantify, though. However, the second is most certainly not an exact unit (when related to Earth's rotation), and it just as soon could have been any other similar length of time. So I'm still not really buying it. Having some more scientific research done on the subject could be cool, though. "If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. If any of this is possible, it may be helpful. If not, it won't be."

Well one of the videos I saw also showed the "levitating sand" trick using both versions, and the 432 Hz one showed more regular patterns and stability than the 440 Hz. I do agree with you about more research being needed. If I can remember after the two years from now till my BS in Cognitive Science, maybe I'll be able to do some graduate studies on it. The University of Texas at Dallas has a LOT of cutting edge research being done on the mind and perception right now, so it probably wouldn't be too hard to get approval. -Einulf Current System: Ziya (Formerly Einulf), Mizan, Aura, Dark, Lucia, Rand, Jason, Akira Here's our Tumblr, if anyone wants it
Guest August 21, 2015 August 21, 2015 Sound is weird Speaking of, anyone have any experience with Pulsatile Tinnitus? I've had what seems to be it for about a year now, and I'm just wondering if it's a tell of ear-cancer, or something. As long as the noise around me is constant, either a fan, hustle and bustle, or music, I don't notice, but once it's dead quiet, I can plainly hear, and feel it in my left ear. Pretty annoying. It also happens when I tap the keys on my phone, if it's quiet enough. My brother has regular tinnitus, and I have this. Go-figure. Yeah, anyone tho? If it's nothing serious, I'll probably just deal, but who knows?
