sushi August 28, 2015 August 28, 2015 Shortpacked, by David Wilson was the suspect this time. Now go read Dumbing of Age. It's the same guy doing it, and lots of the same characters (though their backstory has been revised a bit, and most of them are younger). Anyway though, I think it's better, and it's ongoing. Or, you know, don't read it and go force. But what are the odds of that? "Some things have to be believed to be seen." - Ralph Hodgson
Guest August 28, 2015 August 28, 2015 But what are the odds of that? I'll have you know, I actually thought about it for a few minutes sometime last night. Which was the first time I'd even considered the act in weeks But, low, nonetheless. Probably less than a 5% chance Rad that you read SP! too, though! My favorite part was probably near the end, when Historical Jesus was marrying the two lesbians with nothing but a copy of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. For that beautiful string of words, if nothing else. I also shed some joy-tears on that panel in generalm And yeah, I'd seen the button for Dumbing of age, It's Walky, and the one with Walky and Joyce at the side of the page for the past few days, but it's just, so much. I think I'll need at least a day to really, truly take everything in. I also need to get caught up with some other obligatory strips, before I move on. I try to keep from checking updates on the ones I like while I'm going through a new one so that there are plenty of updates once I finish. Like, when I decided to go through Penny Arcade! That took a while. A couple weeks, at least, and there were plenty of other updates afterwards. Eventually, I'll just make it to where I'm reading so many at once that I'll never be up to date with all of them at once. It'll take a while, but I'll get there.
Dracky August 28, 2015 August 28, 2015 I used to read Shortpacked. Walky's pretty big in the Transformers fandom, and even does the little two-panel comics on the back page of the Transformers Collector's Club Newsletter (which I should be ashamed to admit I am subscribed to, but I'm somehow not). I'm pretty fond of the way he draws Shattered Glass Ravage. Bah, I want to play Witcher 3, but my gamepad is shot and I ordered a new one, but it won't be here until Wednesday. CURSE MY FIRST-WORLD PROBLEMS! WOE IS ME! I wanna see movies of my dreams.
Guest August 28, 2015 August 28, 2015 Yah, why is meeting people such a difficult thing? What do normal people do? All the groups I join have people older than me by a significant amount (usually 5+ years), I guess I'm going to the wrong groups (well no, I enjoy them, so they're not necessarily wrong but yaknow) Therefor, the obvious solution is to do a tulpamancer group! Anybody live in the seattle area? I'm in Portland. Same time zone, I guess? I'd also be glad to hear some advice/experiences from someone experienced in... group joining? I'm looking to get into something myself. There are a lot of options, and I have eclectic (or possibly just indiscriminate) interests. Some advice or direction would help with narrowing down my choices, at least.
jean-luc August 28, 2015 August 28, 2015 Well, a simple way to prioritize is by how close to you they are meeting. That is of course, after you've narrowed down by what you're interested in. I highly recommend meetup.com, they've got a nice collection of meetups about just about anything you can think of. Expect anywhere from meeting in someones basement to a large professional auditorium depending on the size of the group. Now that I think about it, I should join some groups myself Re:portland It's only a three hour drive. You'll be fine, right? Guest August 31, 2015 August 31, 2015 So hey, I guess I'll be doing night-shift at Walmart. That sounds fucking terrible, but it's available, and the starting pay will be $9.75 or so. I believe nights at our store are full-time only, as well. So yay? It beats fast food, at any rate. I also get to listen to music, and don't have to deal with customers but for two hours, so bonus points. My father and stepmother worked there for years, and had a word with someone who presides over nights. Dude said I if I was gonna work nights, that was great because they're desperate for people, and I should apply as soon as possible. So I assume that means I'll have it on lock. Just gotta wait until Friday, and I'm good. Oh, also, we had that Arios Gundam ordered, finally. It won't be here until October or so probably, because Japan, so that sucks, but hey, whatever. There won't be an awful lot to really do with it past get the pieces clipped, file the nubs down, assemble and detail, but it'll be great for getting the feels for Gunpla, I guess. After this one, and the GN Archer I need to inevitably get, I'm looking at a Master Grade 00 Raiser, which is 1/100 scale opposed to Arios's 1/144. It's a much more assembly-required model, so that'll be interesting, but it's also pricier. Guess it's gonna be the kinda hobby where I can only build a few a year? Unless I buy in bulk, anyway. Or, you know, pay another twenty per for expedited shipping. Still, whatever. Fun I also mentioned getting some hand-me-down computer parts a few months ago that won't be happening anymore, so that makes me sad. We had this family-wide brawl a few weeks ago, and my uncle is fucking dead to me, so he can keep his parts. Gonna see what I can swing with the birthday money, and go from there. Fallout 4 needs to be played as soon as I get it, so a computer is of the utmost importance. I already (Still?) have a decent case, as well as power supply lying around, so I was able to budget something that'd run most gay'ms and random software I use for $500, so that's good. N'egh, I still get shudders when I think about Fallout 4. Two more months aaahhhhhh!!! I meant to ask, anyone else have experience working nights in retail, or better, WalMart specifically? What's it like? My step-mom says fast-paced, but also more straightforward than working days because you typically just stock and zone a single.. Isle thing. However it's spelled. Nervous, and dreading, but I'll take what I can.
Guest September 7, 2015 September 7, 2015 Birthday on Friday was pretty alright, got some stuff, and that leads me to my important question of the day Anyone else picked up Phantom Pain? I'm still in complete awe at how enjoyable this game is. Normally I'll buy something, and kinda make myself play it, not that I don't enjoy it. But here, man, i keep waking up in the morning, and I have to convince myself not to, at least until I've done some other stuff first. I've always been a fan of Metal Gear, but even were I not, it wouldn't be tough to consider this the best game I've played in my life. Everyone needs to do themselves a favor, I think. Man, 2015 has been a great year, so far.
Dracky September 8, 2015 September 8, 2015 Happy birthday, Enny! Glad you had a good one. Haven't picked up MGSV yet, since I picked up a copy of Mad Max (for $20!) and I'm working my way through that. It's not bad, if you like the movies and car combat. Plus the PC port is fantastic, which is surprising after the Arkham Knight debacle. Think some of the critic reviews are a little harsh, but I usually just go by Steam rating, anyway. I'll eventually get PP, but I should probably work my way through Ground Zeroes first. I've never been particularly good at stealth games. Anybody else been following the whole Windows 10 spying thing? I'm conflicted. On one hand, I have nothing to hide; I don't pirate games or software, and I don't look at illegal websites. On the other hand, it's creepy as hell and -while I'm aware privacy on the internet is mostly a thing of the past- it just rubs me the wrong way. Currently, I'm trying to migrate to Linux for day-to-day tasks and internet, and just use Windows for gaming, so i'm distro-hopping right now, trying to find one that feels right. I'm on OpenSUSE 13.2 right now, but holy crap I hate zypper compared to apt. Anybody have any suggestions for a distro outside the big ones (Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu, SUSE, etc.)? I wanna see movies of my dreams.
jean-luc September 8, 2015 September 8, 2015 I use arch linux myself, it's very do-it-yourself no handholding, which I absolutely love. If you're going to use it, block out a weekend to get it installed and setup how you like it, and have another device (smartphone, other laptop) open to access the archlinux wiki (fucking fantastic wiki btw). Also, the package repositories are bleeding-edge, you always get the newest stable package, and there's no distro versions like there is with ubuntu/debian and the like. I find myself in a similar situation, and for awhile I've been meaning to try out the following setup: Ditch dual-booting, I hate it. I always have too many things open that I don't want to have to re-open. So, instead get a computer with 2 video cards; One nice one, and one that is barebones displays pixels. You can usually use onboard video, but sometimes that gets disabled when a videocard is plugged in (for some stupid reason!) and you also need two monitors. Then, what you can do is allow a windows VM to directly access the videocard, so there's no need for DirectX->OpenGL mappings (which only exist for up to DX9 IIRC). This way, you can switch between them and have the (more stable IMO) linux kernel under it all. Also, you can then pause the VM and play any linux games you like on the nice video card. So I bought Tulpa game, and I can say it absolutely sucks balls. Nothing to do with the inclusion of tuppers, it's just an IMO bad game. Kiahdaj September 8, 2015 September 8, 2015 I use Arch as well, and it's great. I just upgraded to Windows 10 tonight, in hopes that it would be of usable speed (Windows 7 isn't), and so far, I give it a meh/10. At any rate, I only use Windows ever because of some things like games and MusicBee. MusicBee is 90% of the reason I'm tempted to use Windows. Linux music library programs suck in comparison. "If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. If any of this is possible, it may be helpful. If not, it won't be."
