Drakaina March 20, 2016 March 20, 2016 Being rather new to the tulpa community it crossed my mind that, like otherkin, the tulpa phenomena may have some sites where from the quality of information to the level of (or lack thereof) critical thinking makes you cringe. Tumblrkin (otherkin tag on tumblr) is one example of just total dreck. So what are some places/tulpa communities that the members here feel should be avoided (or even burned to the ground). SomethingDire March 20, 2016 March 20, 2016 I've been lurking on the Reddit community for a bit of time and.. I don't know. That place is definetly an acquired taste, in my opinion.. I'm SomethingDire, and Céleste is my partner in crime.
Drakaina March 20, 2016 Author March 20, 2016 I feel like one of the only people who still doesn't use Reddit sometimes. I never liked the formatting and how posts seem to move around by popularity. :P I've seen mentions of the Reddit tulpa community on this forum, but the comments rarely seem to be overly positive. SomethingDire March 20, 2016 March 20, 2016 I mean, it's a subjective thing, therefore the person themselves would have to observe the community. The whole.. Approach the community has taken doesn't fit us well, so eh.. But yeah, the general look upon the Reddit community isn't all that positive either, so that also tells you something. It's still highly subjective though, what I've said only represents my opinion-- In no way am I speaking for others. I'm SomethingDire, and Céleste is my partner in crime.
Sock March 20, 2016 March 20, 2016 Some folks on reddit seem rather unstable. There are some really well learned users like Falunel and BloodKitten...but then there are others who's threads I automatically skip just because how goofy and or off-kilter it sounds. I tend to hang out at the art thread when I go there. 8chan's tulpa board is barren, to be blunt. You're not going to get much conversation there, unless you're really determined. It's nice for those who prefer to be anonymous, though. 4chan's tulpa general is in the /trash/ board. I would not suggest anyone but those with iron stomachs go there. The thread itself is typical 4chan stuff, and retreads of older ideas and goofiness. Also Snack poster. Tulpa.io...I'll be honest, I just enjoy using the site itself. The community is small and quiet, and it's more multiplicity leaning than here, but the site itself is amazing. It's so good, all those neat features and posting options and subaccounts...it's fun. Tumblr scares me so I avoid it and have no knowledge of it. As of current, Rizon's IRC channels are kinda meh. Lot's of people talking about nothing, or almost nothing. I may need to do more observation, but it's kind of a slog there. The Tulpa.im server.... seems mostly desolate as well. The people who still use it seem to be rather patient, as small conversations can be stretched across hours. Honestly, I actually found some really nice conversation there, it was quite the surprise. I've run in to some overtly amorous folk here and there, which is what it is known for, but they were rare. That's my quick overview. Sock Cottonwell's Sketchbook, Journal, and Ask thread. Peace
SomethingDire March 20, 2016 March 20, 2016 Oh, now that Sock's reply has reminded me.. I've lurked around and learned my fair bit of stuff about the Tumblr tulpa community. It seemed nice at first, and there are some truly good people I've come across there, but the rest of it is just a big ball of "Ohohohohohohohoho no" to me. The actual Tumblr community is, like Sock said, scary. 4chan's the grandfather of the tulpa community, as the first sparks of the phenomena rose from there. The tulpa stuff used to be treated with a bit of decency from what I understand, and it used to be on the /x/ board. Then, it began it's fall by being put in the /mlp/ board, aaand the rest is history. Lord help the tulpamancers (if there still are) on 4chan if it's been put in /trash/. I've also been on the IRC, and I share Sock's views on that. I'm SomethingDire, and Céleste is my partner in crime.
J.Iscariot March 20, 2016 March 20, 2016 Reddit. Everything related to headmates ON TUMBLR. I respect thoughtforms. I really do. I respect soulbonds and other thoughtforms as much as I respect tulpas. But tumblr gave headmates and plurality a bad image. If you type 'headmates' in google it'll have a continuation for your search; 'bullshit'. IRC is also kind of a waste of time. No comment on how bad it is, but I've had my good share of experience to never step back there again. A wise man once said: 'Before judging a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares? He's a mile away, and you've got new shoes.' Graced are those who could avoid this phenomenon. This is perhaps the worst expression of evil in humanity's history, but who am I to judge?
waffles March 20, 2016 March 20, 2016 I wouldn't say that any of those communities are really "to avoid". rtulpas has a lot of content, and frankly it only looks kind of weird because everything gets posted in one place. I see plenty of goofy threads here, anyway. /trash/ is weird, it's like Sock said, really regressive, like how the community was years ago. I find it kinda fun but Lord help anyone who tries to make a tulpa without stepping outside of it. Tumblr gets a bad rap. I don't know so much about headmates but the tulpa community there is kinda fine. There aren't many people and given how Tumblr works it's hard to get them all in one place, and really there's no static body of content anyway. But among the tulpa community I don't see low-quality information or misconception really. I guess I won't say too much in defence of IRC. It's what you make of it, and if you come in with questions or discussion about tulpas you'll find plenty of people who are happy to talk about it. But for the most part that doesn't happen, and it's mostly off-topic.
Vos March 25, 2016 March 25, 2016 I don't like the way that Reddit is formatted and I think that organization is a lot better on a forum like this. /r/tulpas has some good content and contributors, but some of the threads there are ridiculous and I tend to avoid them. Tulpa.io has some neat features, but I'm not too interested in participating there. I'll have to take another look at some point, but I doubt that I'll be on there as much as I am here. If you start some on-topic stuff on the IRC, you're going to get people that jump in to discuss things with you, but it's mostly off-topic nothingness and circlejerking. I can't say much about the existing imageboards or Tumblr -- the 8chan thing is dead from what I remember, but I did have a lot of fun on /trash/. There's some good and bad in everything, I'm sure, so I think that people should at least take a look at some of these places.
Kiahdaj March 25, 2016 March 25, 2016 Tulpa communities seem to often dislike each other by nature. A lot of the tulpa.info IRC users hate the tulpa.im IRC, and the tulpa.im IRC hate Tulpa.info in general. There's some degree of animosity between .info and reddit on both ends, as well. Even lots of Tulpa.info forum users dislike the tulpa.info IRC users, and the other way around. So in my opinion, everyone's opinion regarding which communities to avoid should be taken with a large grain of salt. Or maybe not at all. You should probably just go and try them out for yourself. What I can say from my experience, all personal feelings about these communities aside, is that the non-tulpa.info communities tend to lean more towards multiplicity in general, as others have also mentioned in this thread. The other communities have a considerable amount of otherkin, daemons, soulbonds, etc. So Tulpa.info seems to be the most tulpa-focused community out of the bunch. Aside from that, different communities have different people, and different content. None of the communities advocate torturing tulpas or making them to be sex slaves, so there's no particular reason to avoid any besides your own personal reasons. The best community for you likely depends on your own mindset on the whole phenomenon. If you view tulpas in a scientific light, then Tulpa.info is probably the most suitable. If your subscribe to different meta/magic beliefs, there are other communities in which you will likely feel more at home. "If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. If any of this is possible, it may be helpful. If not, it won't be."
