Invision Community 4.5 Upgrade

We've updated from Invision Community 4.4 to Invision Community 4.5.  They considered this a major upgrade, and changed a ton of stuff.  I was holding off until Feb to upgrade for stability, but a security update came out, and we need those asap.  Thankfully, after a small FTP hiccup, the upgrade went relatively smoothly.  As always, this is a new version, so let me know know as soon as you find some bugs.

 

The Good

• New thread statistics off to the side!
• Ability to bookmark posts
• Font Awesome Support
• Similar Topic suggestions (only displays topics younger than 1 year)
• Hopefully previous bugs have been fixed :) 
• Other brand new exciting and undiscovered enhancements

 

The Bad

• Threads are vertical and "take me to first post" doesn't work-- it's the theme, I have a ticket open.  Light theme is working 100%
• Linked Accounts of all things are broken.  This is an Invision Community's error, not the plugin creator's, and I have opened a ticket with them to get this fixed ASAP! Working again!
• A couple other plugins (contact us / welcome PM) is broken too for the same reason above. Working again!
• Some topics have kindabroken formatting.  I'm working with the theme creator to fix it.
• Other brand new exciting and undiscovered enhancements

 

Again, please let me know if something is glitched.

I don't know how I feel about Invision's new layout, but I'm glad we got the security patch handled.

sometimes when I click on a thread that I has new posts, instead of taking me to the first unread post, it will take me to the beginning of the thread. also when this happens the blue icon at the beginning of the thread title doesn't go away after I have read all the new posts and I can't find any other way to make it go away

I have noticed the icon not going away too, go ahead and make a new Invision Support thread. It's easier for the admins to fix problems if they are all in separate threads.

Why... I use adblock specifically to save my eyes from stuff like this, this is screenspace being used for something 99.5% of the time I do not want to see (as in literally one out of two hundred times I check LOTPW would I want to see how many replies it's gotten and from who)

 

The actual stats are great, but the equivalent on the old forum was clicking on the total posts number I believe. Out of the way (a little too much so actually), appropriate for how often you wanted to see that stuff.

 

Previewing random out-of-context attachments is also kind of dumb.

I changed a setting, how's this instead?

Oh, that's awful in its own way, but immensely preferable. I didn't see that at first and felt bad we lost those stats, though. They're alright there, though I wish they only showed up on like page one or something - kinda weird the top posters will forever be cemented onto the page.. or at least until the software devs decide to mix things up for no reason again.

 

Anyways, getting the screen width back is very helpful. Though now that I think about it, why are these stats even important? Aren't they kinda in the way even in the context of like a Q&A thread? Well, up to you and the existence-or-not of options to change things if you want to, it's not the end of the world like this

 

Oh, and I found a new glitch while looking around for another way to see those stats. Page numbers of threads on forum boards pages are stacking vertically, taking up way more space per thread than they should (EG) https://community.tulpa.info/forum/4-general-discussion/

 

 

Also, Edit Post was moved to a dropdown instead of just being with the buttons below posts, which annoys me personally, but..

I like the horizontal bar instead of the side menu too. Is there an option to make the stats a hidden menu, like the side menu on mobile that pops up once you hit the hamburger button?

 

I also wonder if you can view all of the posters and their post count per thread...

It's just fun thread statistics that came with the upgrade.  I know thread statistics were asked for before, so I figured I'd enable them.  Sadly the only two options are, "Put the thread's statistics under the 1st post or put it on the side of the post."  If people hate them too much, I guess I could just disable them; I thought it was a cool metric in LOTPW.

 

As for the vertical issue and go to latest post, I have them opened with the theme creator.
