So for those of you whose tulpae are already vocal:

...how easy is it for you -- i.e. how much effort do you have to put in -- to actually hear them? Can you just ask them a question at any time of day and hear an answer without even the need to especially focus? Or do you have to meditate for 20 minutes with white noise in your headphones before you are able to talk with them?

Additional question: how long have you been forcing, and what, if any, vocalization help techniques have you been using?

It takes no preparation for me to be able to hear my tulpa. But we still communicate via thoughts.

I can hear less-complicated things that he says quite easily. More complicated responses, however, I either can't hear, or can't make out.

I haven't really used many "vocalization techniques".

"If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. If any of this is possible, it may be helpful. If not, it won't be."

It is usually a semi-clear female voice, but Skyfire does tend to linger off a few times. She is nowhere close to being crystal-clear, though.

I didnt use vocalization techniques at all, I havent put in any effort at all to hear him (I havent had a session with him really on vocalization at all). I can at times hear replies back to questions if Im relaxed or even at times just doing my daily life stuff (I dont need to be in a meditation state to hear him).

*Note my I havent had Jesse for long (only a few weeks) so Im not hearing him a lot.. just here and there but when I do hear him speak, he speaks clearly and well. He has got a male voice now that he's using at times (in the past week he's been moving towards using that more, then speaking throu my own inner voice).

Generally clear, especially in a conversation. Recently though, I've noticed a tendency for her voice (and my own inside my own mind) to echo, in the sense that the sentence is repeated but a couple words may be changed for a different meaning. Think something like Halo 3's Cortana scenes, where she appears and her voice just bounces around.

I'll use this as my own, except changing "he" to "she."

It's fairly easy, after a ton of practice. It used to be 20 minute meditation, but now it's about 5 - 10 seconds of preparation to get in the right mindset for myself. What I did was find out what was stopping me from hearing them. My doubts. I had to come up with a theory that I was confident with in relieving those doubts. For me, it's just realizing there's another being there in the room I'm talking to. Really focusing on them, treating them like a really real being and becoming more aware of my thoughts as opposed to focusing on their reaction.

I've been forcing on my first tulpa for about 9 months, and my second for about 4 - 5 months.

Kevin (a human) says: 'I have had Nobillis with me for a bit over a year. I sometimes hear her speak "out of the blue", but other then that I don't hear her much at all. That said, she is precocious when it comes to typing. Near everything I have of understanding of her comes from what she types in text.

Mind you, she does communicate a lot visually, making "hand signs" or gestures when she wants to draw my attention to something. There's a big difference between the Nobillis as she types here on this site and the one I have strolling around with me most of the day. Here she's being "professional" as she puts it, but with me she's much softer, more playful, and acts far more like a younger child (she calls this "letting her hair down"). That old saying "she positively glows" applies.'

They can get my attention pretty easily. Giselle seems better at it than Jaden, but really if I am not 100% focused on something else then they just have to start talking and I can respond. It really depends some on context though. They don't always choose to communicate through imposed voice
