Well, who isn't?

What a sad world we'd be living in if we were purely rational monolithic beings.

Furthermore I see no problem in all of this. Different problems need different approaches.

People often seem so obsessed with the 'truth' they think there must be one theory which is 'right' while everything else is 'wrong'.

But theories and the models derived from them are not supposed to be an absolute representation of the truth (which we know nothing about). A model is a simplified approximation of a certain fraction of the (hypothetical) truth. And depending on the model it will make more or less accurate predictions.

Think of classical (Newtonian) mechanics vs. quantum mechanics. One might argue that the theory of classical mechanics is 'wrong' as it does not account for quantum effects. Still the theory is extremely accurate if you respect its limits, and your method of choice for everyday problems. Building a house based on quantum mechanics not only wouldn't give you any benefits, it would cause you severe problems as you won't be able to solve the necessary calculations, which are fairly easy in the classical theory.

I think this is something highly important. The best theory is not necessarily the one which could theoretically provide the most accurate results, there is always a trade-off between accuracy and practical usability. It is generally wiser to use the simplest theory which provides sufficiently accurate results.

This is what our brain does. It constantly makes highly oversimplified assumptions based on our empirical knowledge. If we were to analyze every situation we face down to its fundamental core we would not be able to function. We'd go crazy.

Which means - it's perfectly fine to utilize an oversimplified or even naive world-view for everyday situations. It will make life a lot easier and free capacities for those aspects you want to look at in detail. But you can't be perfect all the time. And there's no need to. You just need to be good enough for the actual problem you're facing.

Also, quite an impressive list!

I think epistemology and the whole philosophy of science are highly underrated. I know far less about them than I'd like to, but there's so much interesting stuff to learn... *sigh*

@Yakumo

I loved everything about this response! Assuming tulpa sentience might just fall under that best fit theory for practical purposes concept wouldn't it? That is great food for thought for me and another gem in my collection! Thank you! Perfect that it came in this particular thread! :-)

You're welcome!

I feel the Skepticism thread initiated quite some interesting discussions.

This may not be the right place but I'd like your opinion on the books you've read. What insight did you gain from them?

I love to make up my own words by combining other words together and stuff and junk. I think I will start sharing these now and then. I have lots of old ones and sometimes I come up with new ones.

EDIT: Also, this thread will have my favorite phrases too.

Today's new word:

Complifisticated = complicated and sophisticated at the same time. Peoples on Tulpa Info love to overly complifisiticate things and stuff. Silly peoples.

Words and Phrases Added Below So Far:

brainkapoop or brainkapoopies

wishy fishy

You bet yer bippy

I first read that and thought something else, read at your own risk:

[hidden]Fisted in a complicated manner, such as with the pointer and middle fingers extended and then slowly curled as you progress through whatever cavity.[/hidden]

OH MY GOD. Laughing so hard right now, this is wonderful.

The idea is to remain in a state of constant departure, while always arriving.

Maja will either use name tags, [brackets] or this colour.

jean-luc why do you dirtify my special words?

You say it like this is a regular thing, but it's only happened once so far. It's honestly what I thought it meant before reading your definition.
