Lucilyn August 15, 2017 August 15, 2017 I'm reminded again and again that Osu is not a game you're supposed to have fun in [video=youtube] like the description says, every time I start to have fun in Osu it reminds me that's not allowed. Like I'll try and play a song just for fun and not care if I miss, but then I'm at like 1000x combo and it's a big deal, and I miss a note ten seconds from the end and so I get 0 points for it instead of possibly being our highest scoring song. This whole dang game is set up not to be fun... The base game is fun, with music and interaction with it, but then everything from there makes it less fun, more stressful, or less fun. I tend to just immediately quit Osu whenever something so unfun happens now :\ it's not worth it most of the time. (This isn't the only thing by far, but this is an example of why I say I hate Osu sometimes @Tulpa) Hi, I'm one of Lumi's tulpas! I like rain and dancing and dancing in the rain and if there's frogs there too that's bonus points. I think being happy and having fun makes life worth living, so spreading happiness is my number one goal! Talk to us? https://community.tulpa.info/thread-ask-lumi-s-tulpas
Tewi August 15, 2017 August 15, 2017 Oh, the everlasting pursuit of fun. She didn't ask, but maybe I should find her something to do for fun if she's that bored. Osu certainly takes up your time, but whether or not it's fun differs every time we play. Unfortunately it seems like the most fun activities for her involve playing with other people, and our friends aren't always available. Maybe something like an MMO (like an MMO, an actual one would probably be a huge waste of our time) where she can just find people to play with whenever would be good. jean-luc August 17, 2017 August 17, 2017 Stepmania (DDR clone) is very configurable, so you can make it more fun like I did with mine: By default when you fail a song it quits immediately. Fuck that! I wanna keep playing the song regardless of how well the game thinks I'm doing. So I changed settings, and now it doesn't quit songs unless I tell it to. It's also open source, so in theory you can modify it any way you like. Also if you don't want to go full DDR and buy a ~$80 dance mat, you can also play with the keyboard. Tewi August 17, 2017 August 17, 2017 I didn't even think about playing with a real dance mat until you mentioned it. Sounds fun, but that's not an investment I'm willing to make. Also, the points system on Osu is what keeps us (addicted) playing when we're not having fun anymore. That combined with the fact that we love music and video games and no other game we've seen combines them in a manner to our liking like this (Necrodancer was genuinely upsetting to play, actually) means we keep playing year after year. Lucilyn started playing the Taiko mode on Osu a few days ago, and I've found that entertaining enough. I mean, we had over 1000pp before she started playing again, but times we actually do so are few and far between. This time around I've found a new map that'll be our number one score when I no-miss it, probably in the next half hour. I played it, broke combo once 60% of the way in, and then gained a surprising amount of points after anyway. I guess I'll go do that now. Pre-Post Edit: Oops, it's already our number one by far, after I broke 5/6 of the way through. But I will improve it still. (On Crypt of the NecroDancer - If you're looking for a fun game to play along with your music, it has both Lucilyn's and my seal of disapproval. The music is a ruleset, but by no means are you playing your music, you're playing NecroDancer. The game requires memorizing enemy movement patterns and how to manipulate them in a turn-based manner to crawl dungeons. It's extremely frustrating to pick up and play through with your own music if that was your goal, there's far too much focus on the game to get carried away in listening to the song. But as a game simply based around playing to music, it's pretty great and the music is too. Would recommend it as a good game with good music, would not recommend it as a game to play your music itself. If it wasn't obvious, yes, you can play with custom songs.) tulpa001 August 18, 2017 August 18, 2017 My host was briefly addicted to DDR revolution on ps2. But she only used the controller and mainly played for the dance music. Host comments in italics. Tulpa's log. Tulpa's guide.
Tewi August 18, 2017 August 18, 2017 I was just briefly addicted to Factorio. 14 hours on my singleplayer game in.. 2, 3 days? Hard to tell with our current schedule. Unfortunately I've played through the late game with friends already so I don't think I have the motivation to get back on now that I'm off it. Was fun while it lasted. Our life seems fairly game-centric, but I'm thinking about working on just relaxing instead of being entertained for a bit. Very rarely do we take time to just listen to music or a podcast or something without playing games at the same time - roughly as often as we do any wonderlanding, ie extremely rarely. But it's sort of part of my lucid dreaming plan right now to relax during the day and be more aware at night, so video games are counterproductive. We'll see how this goes. glitchthe3rd August 26, 2017 August 26, 2017 Brink is free to play now, maybe we could see about getting people together to play that in co-op or versus mode. "Science isn't about why, science is about why not?" -Cave Johnson Tulpae: Luna, Elise, Naomi My progress report
Guest August 26, 2017 August 26, 2017 I remember playing Brink on launch at a friend's house and having the most disappointing experience up to that point in my life. Is it fun, years later? I'll see it at Gamestop for like a dollar every once and a while and joke about that still being too high, that they'd need to pay me to take it. No clue if it's actually that bad in hindsight but I wouldn't be too surprised.
Lucilyn August 27, 2017 August 27, 2017 I'd rather play TF2 I think, or some non-PvP game.. I think I'm gonna start playing more songs on Doubletime/+Hidden on Osu, because this was super fun (and sorta loud, sorry) [video=youtube] Hi, I'm one of Lumi's tulpas! Too bad being a character that can parkour massively restricts your selection of guns >_> Also the netcode is worse than Dark Souls on a 56k modem.
