Just finished playing Killing Floor 2 with Glitchthe3rd. It's free for the week, so I guess I recommend trying it if it looks interesting to you. 10 classes (I mean """perks""") you can play, but rather than specific characters for each they only change your perks (I mean """skills""") and starting gear, so you can play whatever character with whatever """perk""". You get a new perk ("""skill""") every 5 levels with a """perk""", you choose (and re-choose whenever you want) one of two options every time to shape how you want your character to play. The game itself has 4 difficulties relatively tied to recommended """perk""" levels, and a lot of maps, but I'd say the games are repetitive in a sense and you can expect the exact same thing from the enemies every time. The variety comes in playing higher difficulties as you get better and level up, or/and playing with new """perks""" like the melee-specialist Berserker instead of healing Medic.

My only complaint is that they call classes perks. Nearly unforgivable.

So this year's e3 was generally disappointing, some great things to come from Nintendo, but overall meh from the industry at large. Anyone have any strong opinions on anything coming out, or previewed?

I heard the news and updates for the FO4, Skyrim, and Doom VR stuff, and was kind of interested, but it looks like the community as a whole is incredibly on the fence about it. A really large portion is just people complaining that it's not new titles, which I understand, and then I guess there's the VR-interested niche that's also confused, or seemingly, anyway. Skyrim on PSVR looks really janky, although it's been said to be in a fairly early stage in development, and then FO4's gripes seem to be a bit more focused, some clipping, questions about how weapons function, movement, etc. And of course, the $60 price tag regardless of current ownership (which is really dumb, Beth, come on)

I actually find it a bit weird how lukewarm the VR community is on it, I guess. FO4 is easily my biggest disappointment in years, but I might honestly consider buying a Vive to try it out. I guess it'll probably be the first VR title with this kind of like, 'scope' I guess, in the genre, and I kind of find it really exciting to imagine just moving around a larger area and just looking around. If the gameplay is actually complimented by VR in any way, that'd be fantastic, but we'll see huh.

Kinda hyped for the new Xenoblade Chronicles, too. Didn't get to play the original, but I put a decent amount of time into X, and really enjoyed it. I told myself I wasn't gonna buy a Switch, but am considering it now. Might see if I can get one secondhand or something, in the next few months.

Factorio:

Can you build a coal powered mining drill in under a second with some sheet metal and rough cut rocks?

Intreface is cumbersome and annoying. May be a long time before I try the game again.

I didn't have too much trouble with the interface? There's four tabs of stuff to make, which IIRC go Technical/logistic/misc stuff like pipes and chests and cars and inserters, actual Machines like furnaces and drills and chemical plants, Materials that you rarely craft in yourself and moreso do with assembly machines/chemical plants, and Combat, with guns and ammo and all the stuff that goes in modular armor.

The hardest part of the entire game was figuring out how the boilers worked. You know, your FIRST source of energy. Eventually I managed to stop getting the pipes to flood with water after about 5 minutes of working fine. But if you don't like Factorio that's fine, I don't love it like some people so I won't defend it too much. I just didn't mind its interface or mechanics or anything.

It wasn't bad. But, man, I can't figure out how do disassemble a built structure. Which is beyond lousy design as far as I am concerned. Also, you have to control your character with the keyboard, and place items with the mouse. You have to open interfaces with the mouse and close interfaces with the keyboard. That's-- just wrong.

You just hold right click on them. If you clicked right click you'd see a progress bar show up for a slight second, that's how I figured it out. And maybe I've just played too much Terraria, but the keyboard/mouse thing barely bugged me at all. But last I checked I have more than 700 hours in Terraria and it's much worse than Factorio, so..

E3

Nothing interested me aside from the new Monster Hunter and The Evil Within 2. Microsoft's conference was embarrassing to watch because of how lackluster their new console is, but I'm happy to see that Cuphead finally has a release date.

Glad to see a new metro title coming (Metro Exodus) but I don't like the gameplay of Last Light as much as Metro. Seemed like the end of every level was "fight off the waves until X happens." It also didn't feel like you had as much choice in loadouts and routes.

It's like they took the original metro which was already fairly linear (because tunnels and story experience) and then made it more linear.

I'm hoping exodus is a little more open-worldy than previous but what they showed is basically just a teaser at this point. No reflection on what gameplay will be like yet.
