I have spent far too many hours on Factorio... Been playing one called Planetbase recently, you have to build an outpost on a variety of inhospitable alien worlds.

I prefer the ones where you have to build ten different plants just to create plastic. Also, factorissimo is cool.

I've played a lot of Factorio (957 hours according to Steam. Jesus...), but never got much into mods. Just an infinite ore mod so I could slowly and steadily expand and only have everything increase, and a mod to auto launch rockets. If you like complicated building games, have you ever attempted to delve into Dwarf Fortress? Deepest, most complex game ever, bar none. The stories that come out of that game are awesome, though the learning curve is more of a cliff. It takes more time to master Dwarf Fortress than to develop a mature tulpa... Still, stories like that can really draw a person in.

I like Minecraft mod(pack)s like Thermal Expansion, and IndustrialCraft in the past. Playing a random modpack on FeedTheBeast with TE in it could provide a nice 3D environment to make your factories and much more in. I know people might not like the idea of minecraft modpacks by default, but.. We've had a lot of fun with them, playing with friends. But for someone who specifically likes the technology/automation aspect (as some of our friends did), it could be a lot of fun to play alone (as some of our friends did).

Yeah, dwarf fortress, the original time sink. It is in active development, so even if you design the perfect trap network, the next wave of enemies come along and dodge all your weapon traps. Because rule change. *facehoof* But that was before I was born. The game started getting good when he added 3D trees. Also, my host played a modpack that added a bunch of extra industries, and some magic tech to the game.

I just played my first Minecraft modpack two weeks ago, and I've already become addicted and started automating torcherinos... not because they're useful, but because they're expensive, so now I have thousands of them. =)

 

And, Dwarf Fortress... I opened up the game, I looked at the game, and then burned the game before I did anything I regretted... oh wait, you're talking about a different game by the same name! The first game called "Dwarf Fortress" was ASCII, and looked about like this:

 

 

 

Yeah, not sure if I want to deal with learning what all that means...

It makes sense to me! It's just an ASCII game! You memorize what all the letters mean and the colors can help too, then you learn to see them like the actual things in your mind. I don't think that's the hard part of Dwarf Fortress?

Well, I've had my share of Nethack, Angband, etc. (oh gosh, and I'm only 16...), but looking around that game, it just seemed a bit much...

 

Anyway, have any of you played Robot Odyssey? Or ZYLL?
