So I've been spending time with Flan (casual imposition mostly) and decided to play her theme on Osu. I was the first of us to no-miss it which we've tried to do for quite a while, but took it in passing. Played another somewhat hard song and got quite an impressive score, raised my PP by 25 (I've been stuck in a rut of gaining no more than ~4 for a long time) and went to check my scores, turns out.. that one didn't matter much, but the U.N. Owen one is now our highest scoring play and the first to break 100 performance points (102, followed by an extremely lucky play of mine at 94 from 7 months ago). So, that's cool.

I'd also like to note that, despite us being MUCH better at Osu than we were 7 months ago, Reisen and Flandre each have a score from that time that us more active switchers (Me, Tewi, Lucilyn) haven't been able to beat. Flandre no-missed a longish song full of streams (many notes layered over each other in a line or curve or some such), and Reisen did

, which Lucilyn and I have both tried to beat but haven't. I've played the one Flan did a few times yesterday and today, but despite her encouragement I'm just not doing as well as she did. And I don't even know what was up with Reisen, I know she was surprised herself, but that kind of not-missing on a song that hard (relatively) to us is unheard of.

 

On all of our old high-combo (and thus OBVIOUSLY highest scoring) songs of the past, even if we play them now we'll assuredly be much more accurate, but tend to still miss a note or two we didn't at the time. That's because we used to play songs over and over to try and no-miss them for points, which we stopped doing a while ago. But neither Flandre nor Reisen played their respective songs more than once. I'm inclined to think they both just have a calmer playstyle that lends itself to not missing for long periods of time. The fact that neither of them are terribly invested in getting a highscore when they play supports that I think.

 

 

Also, if it wasn't obvious, we've got pretty good memory of who did what while switched and that applies to song plays/highscores on Osu lol. I wouldn't say any of us compete per se, but there are many, many scores on songs that we know who obtained. There's even some songs we consider "ours", though it's hard to explain what that means.

Just played this song for the first time, only once, and it was the most fun I've had on Osu in months. Maybe longer. It was the last of like ten new songs I downloaded and played and my hand was hurting quite a bit, so it was the last one I planned on playing for the day too. I almost failed out a few times, but overall it just went really well.

 

This is exactly why I decided to put forth the effort to get good at the game. Since I first watched someone play an Osu map for Jumper years ago, I've wanted to be good enough that I could play those sorts of songs and actually have fun. While any well made map and appropriately difficult difficulty at the time has been fun, I honestly think the harder maps that I'm actually capable of playing are more fun than the easier ones were. Regardless, I really liked this one.

(Also, while the first time I saw Osu was many years ago, I've only been playing for about 2 years now)

That was the best map we've beaten in a while. Here's the worst. I believe it's been nearly two years and none of us were able to pass this until I did just now. Calling it bad would be an insult to bad things everywhere. Whoever made it was a sadist.

I uh, am I allowed to post here? That's a lot of our posts in a row... You guys act like you aren't a whole bunch'a gamers gaming all the time. There's gotta be something other than Osu going on oh hey look Osu! We're still getting lots better!

 

I recorded my first attempt at this song (I failed out eventually..) because I thought it'd be fun to watch later when we're better. But also I think we're reaching the point where non-Osu players won't even be able to keep up with their eyes with what's going on! I sure can't. We passed the point of looking at every note we hit a long time ago.. Sometimes you just gotta move you know?

This map gets pretty intense you should watch, or don't if your time is that valuable I'm not making you

Well, I almost got sucked into factorio, downloaded a bunch of mods that made everything super complicated, got out before I drowned.

 

Back to idle games, as they are not addicting.
