Peace of Mind in Multiples

Question

It’s nice to have a happy and lovely tulpa in your head, someone who’s eagerly waiting for you to take a break and spend some time in wonderland with them. Tulpas are often deemed as best helpers and supporters, always vouching for their hosts. Sounds like a perfect companionship, eh? But it’s not all the truth.

Tulpas, like all the other personalities, accumulate the baggage of emotions. The baggage of doubts, stray thoughts. They develop their own subconscious, feeding it with wants and hates, year after year as they progress on their own separate path of development.

Please don't tell non-GAT members not to give their feedback and suggestions for approval/disapproval. Everyone is encouraged to share their thoughts regardless of if they are on the GAT or not.

My suggestion for the link problem is to give a synopsis on what the article is about instead of just a snippet. You should also include a back-up link that people can follow in case your site ever went down.

Huh? No one did this. You probably inferred it from me saying "my non-GAT opinion", but Shinyuu was plenty receptive. Honestly people tend to assume everyone is GAT if they comment on submissions anyways, hence why I specifically mention I'm not.

I'd like to note that it'd be better for everyone if you wouldn't give your suggestions as to approval of the article within this topic given you're not on the GAT team.

Oh, I didn't see that, it was before I even posted lol. Sounds like I just went "Yeah but how about I do anyway?", wasn't my intent.

Non-GAT can't give suggestions as to "approval" in the first place. I was just trying to help solve the linking/on-forum problem. Seems like it'll just come down to GAT members being majority for or against off-site content, though.

yeah; I'm sorry if I sounded rude there but that comment confused me because I didn't remember who's on GAT and who's not and I thought the voting is over.

A recommendation for or against approval is just that - my recommendation. Please also do not interpret my criticisms as being supportive of this article in its current state - its inherently contradictory nature makes a shift in message necessary for it to either make sense or be posted here.

Such staunch refusal to host content locally on .info worries me as well - are you writing these posts because you want them to help people and provide insight, or because you want to grow your own personal blog and following?

I think I explained my reasoning quite clearly in the discussion above. Besides; I don't see why there's an "or" between helping people and growing a blog.

And there's no need to twist my words; I'm not refusing to host content locally on .info; I'm refusing to host the content on the medium which is webforum. If Pleeb had grabbed a custom Medium subdomain when they were offering the service for articles.tulpa.info I'd be the first one to jump on the bandwagon.

First of all, thank you for your submission. I hope I can appropriately address, assess, and suggest things you can improve and remove from your article.

---First paragraph---

Superb hook. A clear and concise introduction with a punch is always a great way to start off any sort of writing, which causes the reader to become engrossed with it.

Tulpas .... develop their own subconscious, feeding it with wants and hates

Even though I agree with this, some users won't. You must continue forcing your tulpa and have them be proactive and significantly involved with their personal lives outside of the wonderland, in my humble opinion. If a tulpa stays within their wonderland all the time and rarely, if at all interacts with the outside world and avoids interaction with it, I feel like they won't be able to develop these sorts of things efficiently and won't flesh them out. They will essentially be stuck with a child's mentality of liking or not liking something just because "they do/don't like it."

Some other GAT members pointed out that "subconscious" isn't used in modern psychology. This is the first I've heard of that, so I won't stumble around trying to correct you on something I don't know and will focus on the article at hand.

you will eventually meet something that will bring you calamity and stress. And tulpas are not as good at dealing with it, as we are often idolised, exposed only to the pleasant experiences.

As Ranger stated, it does seem as if you're implying tulpas aren't as capable of dealing with issues. Sure they can be a bit overly emotional early on, but it doesn't define who they are later on in their lifetime. This specific statement should be reworked.

Despite that, claiming that tulpas tend to be idolized is an interesting suggestion to bring up to the table. Early hosts tend to always be very happy with their tulpas, and their tulpas tend to live very happy early lives. Older tulpas that I know tend to mellow out and be a bit more down to Earth. I can't help but agree with you there as most early/inexperienced systems tend to pitch the idea that tulpas solve a lot of issues instantly.

I’m not saying that you should always be on the lookout for something bad to happen; It’s more of living a balanced life.

Well said and certainly a good thing to mention.

If we only experience good things, they will get devalued over time, and we’ll need more and more of them to feel same enthusiasm.

Personally I don't feel this way. This can apply to material things, but when it comes to people, anyone can constantly be good and be wonderful to you and it will never fade as long as both parties are constantly giving and taking in a constant game of Monopoly. I'll buy Vermont Avenue and constantly tax the other player when they step over my property and I'll pay the same player when I step on theirs. Certainly not a good analogy, but it is certainly amusing and plays into the constant dynamic of a healthy relationship.

Joking aside, this can apply to performing the same tasks over and over again, such as eating the same food, watching the same shows, or performing the same daily schedule. As you mentioned earlier in your article, maintaining balance is essential to this, as having one thing in excess can cause the devaluation issues and possibly lead into unhealthy habits.

Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in. Then smile and tell your system mate it all will be fine.

-_-

-o-

-v-

Sometimes being told that it will all be fine is good enough. A hug or a nice little headpat can help immensely too.

This felt a bit out of place. I would heavily suggest removing this entirely as it kind of took me aback for a moment. It causes the article to feel like a pitch to subscribe to the mailing list and gave me a mildly bitter taste.

To be frank, I found it difficult to review this article as there was not many necessarily unrefined statements, nor did it have any information I would consider unhealthy for .info's standards.  It does need a bit more adjustments and some updates, yes. It may be more of an opinion piece as other members have stated, but it isn't necessarily a minus. Once you adjust and change a few things, most notably the advertising and the assumption that tulpas aren't mature enough to deal with stressful situations, I can allow the Clo Seal of Approval to be stamped onto this.

Thanks for the feedback y'all! Overall the process seems much smoother and useful than where the GAT was two years ago so you're doing a good job. Keep it up.

On the individual feedback.

Re. Kitsune in Yellow's notes:

Everything is valid. I'm not a neuroscientist so for me it feels natural to use the words based on their definitions; e.g. subconscious is "of or concerning the part of the mind of which one is not fully aware but which influences one's actions and feelings." (Oxford Dictionary) as compared to the unconscious: "the part of the mind which is inaccessible to the conscious mind but which affects behaviour and emotions." In my article I refer to the former concept. It's also known in Buddhism as a monkey mind but thinking about that I find it burdensome to pull in and explain buddhist terminology too when there's an English word that fits the spot.

I can understand how it might not be proper use for you as a scientist but I'm not a scientist; I don't write a scientific publication; and .info isn't a peer-reviewed magazine. I would gladly accept another word as a substitute but I'd need some guidance as for "unconscious" doesn't seem to fit into the context of what I'm describing.

Given your "I think this has some good ideas, but I'm rejecting it until the grammar is fixed and the practical advice on stress management is improved" I'll consider this as a positive vote as I can and definitely should improve on both.

Re. Candybell's notes:

"It's impossible to view things perfectly objectively regardless of who and where you are" – yeahs; this is something that absolutely should be improved. I've been somewhat more idealistic two years ago I guess and the article didn't age well. Given the general premise of it still stands it's something I can work on; though.

Given your "Approved for Articles" I'll consider this as a positive vote.

Re. Breloomancer's notes:

I addressed the subconscious vs. unconscious issue above and I'm up for any suggestions. Given the "I'll approve for guides once you fix the thing about subconscious" I consider this as a positive vote.

Re. AZ's notes:

As it sums up the notes above and the summary of "I’ll be happy to approve this for articles" given the other notes above are addressed I consider this as a positive vote.

Re. Piano's notes:

I'd like to address your grammatical fixes in particular noting that while you spent your time doing rewriting and fixing it's completely useless for me as a writer as I need to hunt them sentence by sentence and it's simpler to ignore them all. While some writers appreciate editors doing the full editing most prefer the highlighter to point them at where they goofed.

I acknowledge that the article might be lacking on a bunch of points raised. I don't plan to do a major rewrite and I think it still conveys the emotions I tried to put into it so I will consider "I can't approve it in its current state" as a negative vote. Unfortunately I cannot act on this feedback at all.

Re. Ranger's notes:

The feedback is very good and indeed the wording must be improved as the communicated meaning is off. Thanks for pointing that out.

I elaborated on the advertising above and given I don't plan and never intended to post the text in full on .info I will consider "If you fix all the issues including the advertising issue" as a negative vote.

Re. Clo's notes:

"If a tulpa stays within their wonderland all the time and rarely, if at all interacts with the outside world and avoids interaction with it, I feel like they won't be able to develop these sorts of things efficiently and won't flesh them out" this is exactly how I feel! If you got this concern while reading my article it must be improved until this is gone. This is vary much one of the fundamental things about tulpas I believe in!

Based on the advertisement concern raised again and acknowledging that the references to my blog must go to get an approval in "Once you adjust and change a few things, most notably the advertising" I'll consider this as a negative vote.

Summing up; I don't feel like Piano's feedback was actionable and I have fundamental disagreements on the points required by Clo and Ranger I will consider the vote spread not in my favour even with the requested amendments. Thus I'm withdrawing my submission from further review.

As a followup note I'd like to see a wider GAT statement on advertising; including the definition of what they consider advertising to start with (it might be feasible for me to withdraw the other articles too before you spend your time reading them).

Ah man, if I'd realized your submission was so small I would've just read it a long time ago. Was sort of traumatized by those massive Google Docs guides.

So, first off - your use of subconscious is fine with its intent, the problem is it brings to mind the idea of "multiple subconscious minds" and all that people have been arguing about for years. All subconscious information will be stored in the body's singular subconscious, although there is (or at least can be for a developed tulpa) a clearly defined bubble for them. My tulpas do react on a very basic level to things differently than me while switched to the point I've been convinced of this. But even I don't like the sound of them "getting their own subconscious"; like, yes.. effectively, but no, it's still not a separate "thing" entirely. Just their own root folder on a hard drive. Same hard drive, still susceptible to the limitations of hardware, viruses, etc. that the rest has. But by all other means separate. Does it make sense what I'm saying about your use of the word? Because I'm not sure how exactly to change it if at all. It just might give misconceptions as-is, seen by the GAT not liking your use of the word.

Second,

No matter if you live in your own little world or are exposed to the — sometimes harsh — reality, you will eventually meet something that will bring you calamity and stress. Commonly, tulpas aren’t as good at dealing with it, being idolised and exposed only to the pleasant experiences at a younger age. Exposed to new stressors, tulpas might break down or worse — take all the system down with them.

This isn't true. It sounds like an intuitive assumption, and maybe you've seen different experiences than me, but in my case my tulpas have often been better at dealing with situations than me - assuming the right person was there for the job. Lucilyn was surely hit hard by the first time she had hurt feelings and almost cried, something I haven't done in like 17 years. But she has a much better outlook on life than me (I mean, mine's fine, but she's extremely positive) and has an easier time dealing with my inherent motivation issues doing what needs to be done. And then Tewi.. Well, Tewi is just better than me at everything.

So I said, "This isn't true". But you know it should've been "This isn't always true" - my point exactly. I know you said "Commonly", but I still majorly got the impression (reading it like someone who's newish to the phenomenon) that it's almost exclusively true, and that letting a tulpa try to deal with problems the host has could be disastrous. I recommend either rewriting things a bit so that it doesn't sound like tulpas + life problems = time bomb, OR not submitting this to be an Article in the first place. With how small and somewhat personally-informed it is, it seems like a high-quality post to make a General Discussion thread about. Like, just go make this same thread over there, we'll see it, maybe talk about it, and move on.

The GAT standards have gotten more and more perfectionist over time, and at this point something as reasonable as your article won't be approved simply because it isn't universal enough, unless you can avoid giving off the feeling that it's "almost always like this" as you have. But hey, not only am I not GAT, I don't even read the Guides or Articles sections of the forum (just help with Submissions sometimes). Your article would do well in General Discussion. Quality posts like this end up getting bumped for years from one person saying it helped them or they liked it, bringing new viewers over time.

"Articles" might get a lot of views, or it might not, I'm not sure. It's dusty. And nothing gets bumped.
