It's such a subtle difference but I guess you're right.

And the plural is obviously Tail-pay, good thing everyone pronounces that the same way.

Of course, who doesn't pronounce it as "tul-pay"?

...

I MEAN

TAIL-PAY...

PRONUNCE IT AS TAIL-PAY

I pronounce it as tul-pay ;-;

same lol even though there's no reason to pronounce ae as ay

except I think some words ending with ae are pronounced ay..

and nobody knows how to pronounce ae for real because it was pronounced E and I at different time periods in latin...

I think I/eye is the commonly accepted one? and the commonly accepted tulpa-plural is both! Just say tulpas if you're not already attached to ae tho!

Hi, I'm one of Lumi's tulpas! I like rain and dancing and dancing in the rain and if there's frogs there too that's bonus points.

TULL-puh

Tull as in Jethro Tull

Puh as in Pug (just drop the g sound)

I haven't quite settled on a plural yet but in speech it feels weird to say tulpae

Maggie David (she or they, birthday June 4)

Wait so you're saying the correct plural pronounciation should be tulp-EYE?

like, I guess you could say tulp-E, because.. uh.. "E" pronunciation of ae is really old and so is the "word" tulpa? Even though that's not how language works on like fifteen levels?

idk we just read tulpae as tull-pay but there's more than a few reasons to just say tulpas instead

I'm shamelessly bumping this thread because I remembered it and it's nostalgic.

I used to pronounce Tulpa "Tool-pa", but after this thread I started saying "Tull-pah". The plural "Tulpas" I think sounds better when using the latter and not the former.

I'm like never going to check this account. If you want to ask me something, you should check our status on Ranger's account instead.

Meow. You may see my headmates call me Gray or sometimes Cat.

I used to speak in pink and Ranger used to speak in blue (if it's unmarked and colored assume it's Ranger). She loves to chat.

Our system account

We are solidly in the camp of tool-pah/tool-pay, but these poll results are fascinating.

I don't even understand how people ended up with toll-pah, though my host is priming some sort of lecture on antique linguistics [foszae, hovering]: "whan that aprill with his shoures soote..."

It seems like any time i've ever heard it said aloud, it's more like tull-puhz, rhymes with 'skull fuzz.'

Also, this debate really needs to be translated properly into the IPA.

Early member of a large system.  Our system questions the way the afterlife and tulpamancy interact.  We genuinely suspect that deadies can return to share the mind of the living.

I never even considered you could pronounce it any other way. And while I'm technically just as against "tool-pa" as I am "tulpae", the pronunciation is a lot less one-sided of an argument, so I can't really say anything against it I guess. For the record, everyone I've ever heard say "Tulpa" out loud (that's like.. more than five people) said tull-puh.

My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us about tulpamancy stuff there.
