NED September 1, 2012 September 1, 2012 Holy cow there are no words to describe how much i want those goggles. But seriously I think we will all be dead by the time we work out how to make a sentient hologram on a personal HUD. But I can't say anything. My great granny heard of the first flight across the pacific ocean. To everyone in that time it was like 'HOLY CRAP THATS AMAZING HOW DID THEY DO THAT!? IT IS AN UNBELIEVABLE ACHIEVEMENT!' but now hundreds of people do it every day without even caring. Who am I to say that super intelligent AI wont exist in the near future? Also im guessing if this tech becomes real it will be nowhere near a great companion as a tulpa. These will probably be some crap that you buy on the app store and can change and buy new ones all the time. it will be not that awesome. Name - Silver Form - Harpy Sentience - fully sentient Personality - Playful, cheerful, enthusiastic, chilled Smell - Baileys Stage - Narration and imposition
Sock September 1, 2012 September 1, 2012 Oh my god Why can some of you guys not get why monks conceived of this Tulpae aren't just for companionship but self-enlightenment, if you just want to fuck your waifu you may as well smoke some weed and get a body pillow. The monks didn't create the concept of tulpa, it's a naturally happening phenomenon. The monks simply learned that it existed and harnessed it more than other, which is still really damn cool. Tulpa aren't for one strict purpose, may it be enlightenment, companionship, or sexual gratification. They are beings similar to, if in some ways lower than, ourselves, and should really be treated as tools of any sort. But that's just me rambling a bit. Sock Cottonwell's Sketchbook, Journal, and Ask thread. Peace

It depends upon when quantum computers become availible to the general public at a reasonable price. Current tech cannot make a computer that is even close to a cat brain. Until computers can run an AI actaully programming one is impossible with the closest one can come being designing software that might theoretically work. Now trying a second time after increased school work cause failure last year. My senior project was a major time sink once it really got under way.

Oguigi September 1, 2012 September 1, 2012 I won't underestamite the power and the speed of progression of technology. And "Strong" AI *might* be a legitimate threat to Oguigi but 'most likey' it will not, I won't lie to her that everything will be Fine Forever, But i can Promise that whatever may come up we'll get through it together. pix: Link Diary: http://ponystasha.tumblr.com Koomer.
Bin September 1, 2012 September 1, 2012 Really the only reason we don't have very good AI right now is because the field is dead. Not so much due to technical limitations but more due to the reason that 99% of the people in the computer field are stone cold retarded and funding has completely ceased due to it. And I don't really see how a quantum computer could help with much, someone made a really unstable one and that could just hardly do simple addition, and it could only keep the answer for a second. If I recall correctly quantum computers work in a base twenty-something system instead of binary, which is cool and all but for some reason there's a misconception with people where they think it has unlimited computational capabilities. At least I think. no

At least I think. The reason quantum computers is because improvements possible on existing methods will hit the maximum practical capacity long before it could run an AI. Especially for one that is to fit into something a person could carry with them at all times. And the stability varies, there are less powerful varients that are more stable. But there is a long ways to go before they are ready for real use. But they show great promise for being fast. Now trying a second time after increased school work cause failure last year. Splooshie123 September 2, 2012 September 2, 2012 A human-level artificial intelligence may be possible within our lifetimes. OpenCog Roadmap 2019-2021: Full-on Human level AGI 2021-2023: Advanced Self Improvement The next step would be something equivalent to Commander Data's emotion chip, because I think OpenCog only deals with intelligence, not emotion or personality. And even if it cannot be portable, why can't it be mobile? A sentient android could carry its own computer built into its body.
Bin September 2, 2012 September 2, 2012 The thing absolutely nobody except Marvin Minsky gets is, there is no intelligence without emotions. You can't have an emotionless AI, that's like having waterless tea. This is why the AI field is dead. For some odd reason, people want to give an AI as much information as possible and work out how it actually comprehends it later. The thing about intelligence is it's only intelligent because it can fear. no
