Title says it all, several guides/comments mentioned that FAQman's tutorial is outdated and even harmful/dangerous in some aspects. What parts of it would be harmful and should be avoided?

It's been quite a while since I've read it, but if memory serves, it is mainly due to his hour count.

Which, as I've said a million times, is not inherently harmful.

The only harm that comes from an hour count is expectations based on number of hours.

Other than that, some aspects of it are "outdated" because other methods have been come up with.

I don't tend to agree with that though, because FAQ_Man's guide serves as a sufficient guideline. It gives you the basic idea of how to go about each step (and for the parts that it doesn't cover, there are other guides for that), and you can alter the method to fit whatever you find most practical/comfortable.

"If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. If any of this is possible, it may be helpful. If not, it won't be."

So it's only harmful in the sense that people will expect certain results after a fixed amount of hours?

I was worried it was something more serious than that.

Thanks for the explanation.

Yes, basically.

If you think "I will only be able to hear my tulpa after x amount of hours", then you will likely dismiss any actual responses you may get from them as parroting. Same with anything else.

Also, seeing how many hours you've been at it while with limited progress is discouraging.

I'm really pretty sure that that was all that was "wrong" with FAQ's guide.

And I should also point out that, while FAQ_Man's guide is a good guideline, you should absolutely read around more. There are other methods that you may prefer.

Also concepts and ideas, like assuming sentience from the start, like Lacquer said.

"If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. If any of this is possible, it may be helpful. If not, it won't be."

FAQ's is fine, as lone as you're told "hour counts are poison" and "assume sentient from start". Also, it can give people parrotnoia, and that's bad.

Hour counts, as others have said, as well as promoting the belief that too much parroting will create a servitor (which is completely untrue).

I think there's more, but I don't really remember.

Deluded myself into believing my imaginary friends were real, then deluded myself into thinking they weren’t. Whatever the case, the OG gang’s still here:

Host: fennec (they/them)

Tulpas: Alex (he/him) and Kayleigh (she/her)

Delete all memories of those who know my awkward past

the belief that too much parroting will create a servitor (which is completely untrue).

+1 to this.

Like I said, I don't remember the guide too well.

Basically, anything in their that makes you paranoid about something.

We've now pretty much reached the conclusion that there is little you can do it screw up your tulpa.

Keep in mind that an hour count cannot "screw up" your tulpa. It can just make it take longer, but it would be on your end, not theirs.

"If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. If any of this is possible, it may be helpful. If not, it won't be."

Didn't FAQ_man say you have to visualize your tulpa naked at first or else their clothes will become part of their form and then they won't be able to change clothes?

He also said it's harmful for the tulpa if you fall asleep while forcing, I think.

Both of those have been proven false, particularly the first.

I'm not entirely sure if it was him, but I certainly remember that.

Good times..

Anyway, yeah, both definitely not true.

No longer is there anything you really need to worry about.

Well, there never was in the first place, but it was just due to ignorance.
