Kiahdaj April 27, 2013 April 27, 2013 Yeah, that's true as well. Not to mention there are several active members who don't even have tulpas. "If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. If any of this is possible, it may be helpful. If not, it won't be."
oowarrior April 27, 2013 April 27, 2013 Considering this is like the largest tulpa community out there, and yet there are only 3000 members, spread across a world with 7 billion people, I'd say the chances you know one are pretty slim. Also, there is the Daemon community which is very similar. They also have 3000ish members. ~Tulpa~ Name ---------> Caleb Sex ----------> Male Form ---------> Human Stage --------> Personality
imahaxor April 27, 2013 April 27, 2013 You forget the 1% rule. 90% of those 3000 members are inactive. The chances aren't slim. They're practically zero. I'm not sure about that; all that people need to have in order to create one is the information (accidentals would be the exception here). Even people who just join the site or lurk it as a guest could potentially create a tulpa. I'll try and break this down and get an estimate: -There are a little over 3000 users on this site, that means there are potentially 3000 people who know the basics when it comes to tulpa. -Then there are the guests that visit the site daily, but there's no way to tell if they are unique users or not. So there's another number of unknown people who have the information about tulpa. -Don't forget about your roots; there are also many tulpamancers on /mlp/ and /a/. Again, there's no way to get a definitive number here either. Not to mention the other users who aren't part of the tulpa generals are exposed to it as well; so there are more potential tulpamancers. -There are also many users who are only active on irc. And even one time users could have gathered the information necessary to complete a tulpa. -Then you have your accidental tulpas. Unknown number here as well. I can't help but think when you add all these up it will still be pretty insignificant though. It would be impossible to come up with a definitive number. My Tulpa And then it cuts to a scene where you're sitting in a padded cell.

But I still think that chances are, the majority of the people on the planet will never meet anyone who knows about tulpas. Probably not even see one passing by. There may be a greater number of hosts than we'd have thought, but it's still pretty damn insignificant. "If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. jean-luc April 27, 2013 April 27, 2013 So first off, basing number off 7bil is inaccurate. Not all 7 billion people have access to the internet. And the number of people that know the word 'tulpa' may be quite small, but the actual amount of people that have a tulpa may be something like 5%, or 1/20. Almost everyone has imaginary friends as children, and some actually keep them for the rest of their lives. Also, I remember trying to make a tulpa before i even knew this site existed. My plan was pretty simple; keep talking to and pretend it talks back aka parrot. However I failed, and didn't really do much until I came to this site. I know a girl who has 10 tuppers, and didn't even know about this site. (I tried to convince her to join.) So I think you might get a very small number of people that would tell you about it, but I think a lot of people have tulpae. Stats is back: https://stats.jean-luc.org/ I don't visit as often as I used to. If you want me to see something, make sure to quote a post of mine or ping me @jean-luc

Hmm... there are a lot of people who say tulpas are bullshit, so I would think that would blow your theory out of the water. Of course, there are many people (in my experience) who assume that tulpas are fully imposed by definition, so there is definitely room for interpretation. Also, did you mean that 5% of people have had a tulpa, or currently have a tulpa?
jean-luc April 28, 2013 April 28, 2013 have had. And almost none of them knew it as a "tulpa" Stats is back: https://stats.jean-luc.org/ I don't visit as often as I used to. If you want me to see something, make sure to quote a post of mine or ping me @jean-luc
Kiahdaj April 28, 2013 April 28, 2013 I seriously think that people in this community are far too loose with the term "tulpa". There are a lot of people here that seem to be under the impression that most children's imaginary friends ended up being tulpas, and I think that's ridiculous. I don't believe I've ever heard of someone who had an imaginary friend who actually talked back to them. That would be something you'd definitely remember. Not to mention, children's imaginary friends end up dissipating because the child grows up, and doesn't want to live in an imaginary, make-believe world anymore. If the imaginary friend actually talked to them, they would become kind of hard to ignore. Hell, there are people here claiming that they can't get rid of a tulpa they've had for a couple months. Obviously, some people's imaginary friends have turned into a tulpa. That is apparent if you've been on this site for more than half an hour. But I think far too many people think that it is likely to happen, and does often. If I had to guess, I'd say that maybe 1/50 imaginary friends become tulpas. If that. "If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. jean-luc April 28, 2013 April 28, 2013 Although this is all rough guesswork. Perhaps a survey of the general public? Cause, ya'know, we can easily do that. And people will totaly be completely honest about having imaginary friends. /sarcasm Stats is back: https://stats.jean-luc.org/ I don't visit as often as I used to. Nobillis May 2, 2013 May 2, 2013 So first off, basing number off 7bil is inaccurate. Not all 7 billion people have access to the internet. [Kevin (a human) says: I made a tulpa before the internet was. There were things back then called books, and I read one about tulpas. The chances are pretty good that others will have seen such books too since the first was published in 1901 in London. Also some Tibetans still teach how to make tulpas, and this has been the case in their society for much more then a hundred years. So, worldwide the numbers could still be high even amongst those with no internet access. Still, the conclusion remains the same - possibly less then 1 in a million will have a tulpa. Edit: I've said before, my brother has "wolves" that are similar to my "watchdog" tulpas.] Please consider supporting Tulpa.info.
