I love that term "speculative modeling."  Yeah it really is just trying to put very ambiguous phenomenon into words and categories so that we can describe them to each other.  Feelings, emotions, and mental imagery tend to be extremely resistant to being so easily explained or categorize sometimes.  We just do the best we can and I don't think there is ever a right or wrong answer.  

 

What we are here calling "tulpas" I think have always existed and people have experienced them in many ways, as well as all the other types of "headmates."  It's not like suddenly in 2012 tulpas and headmates were discovered!  Peoples have given them lots of names and explanations for them through history (dream guides, spirit guides, guardian angels, totem animals, daemons,...).  

 

Mistgod and I have a favorite saint, St. Joan of Arc.  We are absolutely convinced that her "voices" were tulpas of some kind created from fervent prayer.  The Catholic Church has long ago admitted that some of her voices were of fictional or mythological saints.  In other words, in the medieval world, some of the saints peoples venerated never actually existed as real people.

Ashley is a lot like a spirit guide. I did some research on that and she totally fits within that realm, which could easily mean all those spirit guides are really tulpas or something else. I asked a Guru on a spiritualist forum, (okay, the spiritualist forum) and she basically agreed based on the kinds of things Ashley says.

 

She's a little mis-know-it-all, and I love her.

 

Those people are having just as much fun as we are, but their spirit guides are really not very cuddly. I like tulpas better.

Suppose I could say the same of Gavin. If I were more religious I'm sure I would have prayed, when I was imagining my ideal. In my mind, yes, loads of "informal tulpas" or tulpa-like beings exist in the world. Most of them probably just have little self-awareness: they don't know they can be people, and why would the host ever think that? Or, if the host does think they're a person, they're a person outside of their brain. At least, that was my experience with Gavin for many years. I wouldn't say he was a tulpa until I had him name himself and I spoke more directly with him.

I fervently believe Alice Cooper, the stage character, is a tulpa, and not just acting. Nobody can ever convince me otherwise.

Mistgod has always kinda "worshiped" me. Actually I kinda worship myself as well. We say I am the "goddess guru of grooviness." I say I have minions, the Minions of Melian. I want to be an egregore, like Alice Cooper, in everybody's head.

But isn't it also a form of dependance ? It must bother you as well?

I am very self confident about my minions! Yesh, I have many minions on Deviantart especially. They love to get my e-hugs and heart emoticons! :-) The best part are the dream reports. I tell them I am a dream egregore and I will be in their dreams. I have had many reports of peoples dreaming about me, which is super fun and sometimes hilarious.
