Sock February 4, 2016 February 4, 2016 I saw my copy of rRootage (Linux version available here) a few days back, and I wanted to go ahead and give it a shot again. I was initially unimpressed with it, but when I turned up the difficulty, it really began to shine, and I enjoyed it a lot. I then observed how much content the game actually had. While it's an abstract game, and only has a few music tracks, the amount of challenges the game has is rather staggering in it way. I just wish the upper portion of the available stages didn't have such slow bullet patterns. It also made me recall Kenta Cho's output in general, he's made some pretty impressive stuff, and still appear to be a productive sort of guy. Two games of his that I am particularly fond of are Gunroar, and TUMIKI Fighters. (All of Kenta Chos' shooters are also available on Linux, you can find them in the repository, and there are also links in the rRootage page above) I realized that I quite like being able to connect games to a single person, as it is their artwork, rather than the sum of tens-to-hundreds of nearly faceless men and women. Since I am mentioning SHMUPS, I will list a few more freeware ones I'm fond of: - Hydorah by Locomalito | A Gradius style shmup, something that has become a bit of a rarity in the current climate, where bullet hell games are preferred. - GENETOS by Tatsuya Koyama | This game goes through the history of the vertical shmup gameplay-style, from Space Invaders to RayStorm, all the way to something akin trippy Trasure games like Radiant Silvergun. - The works of x.x | My articular favorite is Blue Wish Resurrection (and Plus). These games are made in the style of CAVE games, being more straight forward bullet hell games. BWR's theme being more sci-fi, and the Eden series being more fairy tale-ish fantasy. - Cho Ren Sha 68k by Famibe no Yosshin | A classic doujin shooter made for the Sharp X68000, and ported to Windows. This game is particularly intense. It is a more classic style manic-shmup, with a larger hit box for the ship, and bullets that, while not as dense in a Touhou or CAVE game, are still numerous, and can quickly spell trouble for you. As well, its pixel art is very detailed, with some quite elaborate bosses. Unfortunately, the main site where this game is hosted seems to be dead. Peace. Sock February 12, 2016 February 12, 2016 If you couldn't tell by the stuff I sometimes post in the music threads, I like LakeFeperd's Sonic fan games, Before the Sequel, After the Sequel, and the lesser spoken of Chrono Adventure. As such, I was quite happy to hear that he's gone to work designing an original IP, Spark the Electric Jester, which has a demo available. I've heard that the game is supposed to be a cross between Sonic and Kirby, and from the bits of it I played, this is quite true. I'm having a bit of difficulty handling it, and its game play flow is quite different from his Sonic games, though still similar enough to fall in to patterns, but I quite enjoy them. I'm noting the distinct feeling of his previous game, Chrono Adventure, in Spark, including some game play elements, and especially its visuals. I look forward to seeing this game completed, as I'm quite impressed with LakeFeperds speed and quality of work. I find it inspiring. Also, this is quite nice. And since we're on the subject of video games, I wanted to share this image I ran in to: Adorable. Peace Sock Cottonwell's Sketchbook, Journal, and Ask thread. Peace
J.Iscariot February 12, 2016 February 12, 2016 I like playing games. A wise man once said: 'Before judging a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares? He's a mile away, and you've got new shoes.' Graced are those who could avoid this phenomenon. This is perhaps the worst expression of evil in humanity's history, but who am I to judge?
Vos February 14, 2016 February 14, 2016 I don't know why I did it, but I bought a PS Vita. If anyone has any recommendations for games (I've already bought Gravity Rush), please let me know.

Oh, this really depends on what you like. If you're into horror I can recommend to get the corpse party series (the first one is a digital psp version). Also: Persona 4. It is a really great JRPG, but I never finished it, because I got tired by grinding to get to a decent level. There are a few good games, but I think one of the best feature is that you can get classic games for the PS1, PSP, and some PS2 ports. The Jak&Daxter Trilogy for example is also pretty great. Tulpa: Alice Form: Realistic Humanoid/Demonic Creation She may or may not talk here, depends on her.

The games actually get improved by playing them that way. ... whoops! :P Greets, AG

YourCatBeany February 17, 2016 February 17, 2016 Am I the only one here who plays almost exclusively racing games? They're the only games I've ever been really good at for the most part, and I've been playing them since I was but a wee larva. Started with Genesis games but didn't start getting good until Gran Turismo on the PS1. Seriously though, I drive for a living, I come home and play GT6 to relax. It's kinda messed up. But as a result of it and being into racing and the physics behind it I've gotten damn good behind the wheel both in games and the real world. It's all I give myself credit for. I'm teaching Hexy how to drive in GT, and my slushbox daily driver when switched. She's a natural. (But I'm still faster/smoother. For now.) Has anyone heard of the Tokyo Xtreme Racer series on the Dreamcast/PS2? TXR Zero is probably my favorite game of all time, even though it's more of an arcade style game and I tend to prefer simulators. Besides driving... Eeh, as a kid and even today, once in awhile I'll do a playthrough of Sonic 3, cos it was the easiest one and only Sonic game I could beat... Or Streets of Rage 2. Used to be really into hockey and would play hockey sims, but not so much anymore. Only thing out of the norm for me was Panzer Dragoon Orta on the original Xbox. I played the hell out of it, it was an obsession. I still have my copy but can't play it because my 360 is the cheap arcade version and it won't play OG Xbox games, and I can't update it. I got it for free though so I can't bitch too much. Ah, and of course I can't forget Pokemon, that was another obsession as a kid. I somehow managed to get all 150 legit on my Red cart back then. I was never a good battler though, even now I'd get slaughtered competitively. But I just play for fun and use my favorites. (Mareep!) I wish I could sit through other RPGs but I get so bored of them so fast. It's a little frustrating because I feel like I'm missing out. Same goes for shooters. Everyone seems to play them but it would be a bad day at the range if I was as bad with a gun as I am in games. I always end up shooting the sky, or the ground, or my allies. I need to have hands, and a gun, and legs. I can't control a gun with thumbsticks. It's best to just call me Beany. Tupper: Hexferry / d.o.b.: 11/04/2015 Hex will speak in italics, if she decides to.
Guest Anonymous February 17, 2016 February 17, 2016 Finished Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance earlier. Both Rina and me really like this game a lot; the combat is both super-fast and highly skill-based, and the game can actually get pretty tough, without it being unfair... and then Blade Mode! Cutting things into tiny little pieces... manually! Makes me wet my pants with joy. xD All in all, it's a game where all the combat scenes are as cool and detailed as if they were a cutscene or QTE section, but you're actually in control. That's what's so awesome about it. Greets, AG PS: Oh, and almost forgot to mention the absolutely great soundtrack that plays along while you slice apart anything from soldiers to nigh-skyscraper-sized Metal Gears. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Da5xCkAjc3o Also love how all the bosses have a theme unique to them, something I wish western games would do as often as Japanese ones.
