Weird semi-parroting? (And general problems)

I've been having some issues with Nebri recently. For starters she can't settle on a voice. We've talked about it and she says that I don't have a big library of female voices. At least none that are very recognizable or memorable.

 

On top of that it seems like when she talks the main thought gets across and then I say it in her voice. I don't consciously think about it until the last few words and I'll end up dismissing it only to have her get frustrated.

 

I've also had problems with her not understanding why I've done something even though she's able to catch my thoughts at other times. I'm debating starting over, or at least "wiping" Nebri's memory so I can start anew.

This happens with Markus a bunch, except the not understanding stuff that I do(she does ask why I do things a bunch but she usually gets it after I've gone through my thought process with her.) I see the odd parroting thing as thought bleedthrough, I guess you'd call it. Like emotional bleedthrough, when hosts feel their tulpas emotions(or vice versa), but with thoughts. Once you pick up on one of her thoughts, you immediately vocalize it without thinking. At least that's what my experience of it's been like. I don't think there's any reason to restart or "wipe" Nebri. Think of all the good times you've had with her. Would you really want to get rid of those experiences for her? I'm not sure that's fair...

Thanks for explaining this for me though, I'm glad I'm not the only one who's experienced this. I knew there was a better term for it and "bleedthrough" explains it perfectly.

 

I've tried to keep it from happening but it seems like that's the way she likes to talk to me.

Yes, me and Saphira had the same problem, with her getting the main point across as an impression, and me then putting it into words. I rarely catch the entire thing, or I miss the point. I think we've made plenty of progress though recently. I've started "transferring" the idea of me proxying, to her actually speaking. Also, maybe suggest picking a temporary voice. Let's just say an actor that you think sounds good. Listen to them saying something again and again, then imagine Nebri saying something completely different in the same voice. It can close the gap in communications, and even if she doesn't like it, she can still use it until they she has a new voice. I found that Saphira's voice as it is at the moment actually kind of "evolved" from the voice that we were trying to use.

Edit: I would really not recommend starting over or wiping Nebri. As arcanemagic said, you would lose all your experiences together.

That sounds like exactly what I was going to do. XD

I'm going to give her Cortana's voice until she picks up her own. We both agree that fits with her design and personality. I've played Halo since age 5 so Cortana's dialogue is engrained in my brain.

 

Even while writing this I can tell her from everything else in my head. Though currently she's talking too fast for me to comprehend. Haha, I guess I've got another problem to solve.

Oooh :D another Halo fan? Yes, Cortana's voice is quite nice actually. It's good to hear that you can hear her though. :)
