Why are you worried about somebody's time when you are posting and ... using the time to post...

I don't get it! *scrunchy confused face*

This is something I can't really argue with An, and even my post count reflects that to some degree. Even so, O have at least a bit of attachment to this place, and it's nice when I can get a good comversation going.

Though as far as format goes, I tend to prefer omage boards, since I like posting pictures with my posts and such. But those tend to fall to nasty content and malignant users, so I can't stay too long in such places.

Sock Cottonwell's

Sketchbook, Journal, and Ask thread.

Peace

I finally got a raid10 array setup, 4 x 2TB drives. I've gone through 7 drives trying to get this thing to work, and I've concluded that some of those drives didn't work due to being DOA and some of them due to the user's brain being DOA. I was super lazy at first and just stacked the drives on top of eachother without monthing them or anything... lots of vibration especiall for the drive on top ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) as well as lots of overheating for all of the drives. Good job me.

Now I'm super skeptical, so even though it's setup I'm still waiting for the full/long/extended/whatever SMART test to finish on all of the drives before I dare put any data on them, but none of them have been marked as "failed" yet.

Once that's done, 4 Terabytes of redundant space... nnnnnghhh. (or 3.7TB depending who you ask... bleh)

Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn.

Everyone deserves to love and be loved. It's human nature.

My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us about tulpamancy stuff there.

ssshhh its fine just forget about it. Focus on other things. Things like:

Pro tip: Hard drives are a lot quieter when properly mounted with at least two (2) screws holding in each drive. Being able to tap sharply on the computer case to make the noise go away for a short while does not mean the noise is nothing to worry about.

You're an inspiration to us all, Jean, what with your technical fortitude.

My home server has three IDE drives in it, pooled into a single logical volume (and a small partition for the OS and such) for a total of ~270GB. There was only one HDD bay, so the other two are mounted each with a single screw, where the two optical drives used to go. Thanks to this, the top one used to lean down on the bottom one, which caused some quite annoying vibration noises, so they now sit with an eraser between them. SMART tests yield "Pre-fail" for all categories, on all three drives.

Life is good.

Joined together? With no redundancy?

I hope you have all that data backed up...

Also I just checked the smart data again, and apparently one of the drives re-allocated the only sector in use, therefor 100% of the sectors have been reallocated, therefor it's the end of the world and the drive is going to die any second according to SMART.

Or at least I hope I'm reading that right. This shit is confusing. Most of the values are at the "worst" value, but apparently that's fine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I'll just assume the things highlighted in red are the only ones I need to worry about. Which means I need to get a fan, because one of the drives keeps overheating :/

I don't have any spare drives for redundancy, nor any more ways to plug them into the server. Some of it is backed up, but none of the data is irreplaceable, anyway.
