So, I fairly recently discovered the whole tulpa shindig and found the idea extremely appealing. I decided I want to make one but I'm having a problem.

I can't visualise at all. The problem is, I'm not sure I'm even doing it right. I've read the guides and I feel like I'm trying to make things appear on the back of my eyelids. But I don't know how to focus my mind's eye (to use the words of chupi's guide). To use an example, I take an item I'm familiar with, in this case my Xbox control. I feel it, already quite familiar with it. I hold it out at eye level, close my eyes and literally just think about it as intently as I can, waiting for something to appear on the back of my eyelids. Can someone tell me if this is the right thing to do? If not, what am I doing wrong? Sorry if this has already been answered somewhere.

TLDR. How does use mind's eye?

Don't put it on your eyelids, that's the main thing. Your eyelids do not exist. When you close your eyes, it is just a featureless void and there is nothing in any direction - convince yourself of that.

You are visualizing using your mind, so don't expect it to "feel physical" or relate it to physical things, at least not at first. There is a void, and you are imagining something inside of it. Just pure imagination, like a dream.

The above post does not contain facts.

q2's the host, QB's the tulpa.

I see. All I can do is try, I just constantly feel like I'm doing it wrong. It doesn't help that I really suck when dealing with anything abstract/illogical. thanks for posting

Two very common problems that hold people back early on.

And the solutions in order are:

  1. Just do whatever works and don't worry about it - every mind is different, what works for some doesn't for others.
  2. Realize that everything about tulpas is abstract - your mind is abstract, and they live there! So just stop caring about things making sense with them.

Sorry if I'm getting overbearing or anything, I just feel like these are some tips that really need to be gotten out of the way ASAP when it comes to making tulpas.

You're welcome~

don't worry too much about it, I sometimes have Doubts myself.

I just have to keep believing and never give up, regardless how hopeless or depressing it may seem that no progress been made, if any at all and am just making this whole thing up.

One of the one constant reassuring aspects of making my tupla is this near constant head pressure, that i never had before, it's not like the usual pulsing pain from a headache, it's more like your Brain is at Work as if it's some kind of womb for your maturing tupla. that reminds me that am getting somewhere with this.

And also reading/browsing the forums helps too.

Koomer.

Yeah, as Q2 (I assume) said, the whole process is abstract.

You'll find that it will likely behoove you to not really follow the guides, except as a very basic outline, at most. You should do whatever feels right to you.

As for the actual visualization, you shouldn't be looking for anything that you will be able to see with your eyes. Meaning it will not be on the same plane as your eyelids. Just think about the controller. Think about what it looks like, focus in your mind, on its details. The colored buttons, where they are, and all the curves, and whatnot.

"If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. If any of this is possible, it may be helpful. If not, it won't be."

So you're not supposed to experience anything akin to something visual? I've never been able to make images, but if I'm just sort of supposed to feel what it looks like then I may have actually been doing it right the whole time. Alright, I think I understand a bit better. Cheers for all the posts

I think I'll just first develop a sentience and a personality, then do all that form shizzle later on, that seems like a reasonable course of action

Well, you'd still "see" it in your mind, but..

It's really not an easy subject to describe.

But no, you shouldn't be expecting to see a CLEAR image, like with your vision.

Not yet, at least.

"If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. If any of this is possible, it may be helpful. If not, it won't be."

If you were actually seeing a definite, almost tangible image, that would be reaching into the imposition territory, I imagine. When I visualize, I can vaguely 'see' an image, but of course it's overridden by the fact that my eyes are perceiving the darkness of my closed eyes. If I could really fully see that image through the darkness, then I would have to already be enforcing a visual hallucination, QED it's already imposition and not just visualization.

It's odd, really. When I was little, I actually experimented with stuff like this, trying to actually see the things I imagined. At night, while lying in bed not-sleeping, I would sometimes close my eyes and imagine a color so hard that I could sometimes impose it over the darkness. I stopped a few years ago, only to discover the tulpa phenomenon. And I'm all like, "Frck yeah."

So yeah, you shouldn't really see a solid, opaque image until later on, cause your imagination is still conflicting with your senses. Pretty much all the creation aspects will be like that.

An abstract, all-encompassing love is still a love, nonetheless.
