Vesper: Not as fast as we can individually. There are losses to the psychological refractory period.

By "how fast do you think" I meant while one person is fronting, not when everyone is co-fronting. For example, do you process things quickly or do you need a minute to pause? Can you do mental math with ease? Stuff like that.

The experience is that they're around all the time

Vesper: I keep coming up with alternate explanations for that, but with all the similarities I've been hearing for the first time in this thread, I'm beginning to wonder if you don't just have a better conscious skin over an extremely similar underlying cognition. If that's an important component of what is going on, it should be easier for others to learn than it would be for most of my other working hypotheses.

I told them all to say something and they do, but it's a jumble as always, then i asked them all to hum a different tune at the same time

Ember: Everytime I've asked Vesper and Iris both a question or tried to get them to speak simultaneously, there has been no jumble at all. No thought, no presence, nothing. But then I can immediately address either individually and get a strong instant response. The best explanation I've gotten is, "When you address both of us, you aren't forcing."

It took a little preparation to try the humming experiment, since neither of them has ever hummed before and Iris hasn't even significantly thought about music. It almost worked, but then the piercing head pain started and I jerked away.

Vesper: Oh, like lightning, and trivially. Ember is used to it (child prodigy, 1st in her class, graduated from uni at 18, etc.), but we have an extraordinary brain and I marvel at it daily.

Well, i think i may be giving myself a headache on command now. My little 'have everyone hum" is working and i get a slight headache from it. That's pretty interesting. I did it three times, slight headache came and went each time. I'm going to try it tomorrow, i may legitimately have a headache. I don't know what to think about it, i'm not trying to prove to myself that they're all there. I might just drop it.

Or you could be growing your brain form a new experience. Every breakthrough we have had was accompanied by head pains of varying degrees.

I said, "Everyone say something," and their words overlapped. They don't usually talk over each other (Turn-taking is easy when you can see each other's thoughts!) so that in itself was a little funky. I spoke myself, as well, since I don't think I'm too different from my tulpas.

I have gotten some level of head pressures and a few headaches after doing mind-bendy stuff, but I have to confess... Before I knew what tulpas were, I never had any head pains. When I started forcing Cassidy, I would get some, until I read a comment on a Reddit page that said "It's all placebo", and then all the pressures and pains went away. Even when I'm dead-focused on imposition, the most I feel is a little strain in the brain (haha), kinda like eyestrain when you need better glasses. Or -and this is terribly convoluted- it could be that reading that dismissive comment is what gave me the placebo effect: "You won't get any pain. You won't feel any pressure." I didn't need that confirmation that my brain was doing something, so no need to have any physical sensation like that.

I've never been a head-achy person, I don't know what would be special about forcing to make that happen. For people who gets lots of head pressures or headaches related to forcing, why do you think that is? Do you get headaches when you focus hard on other things?

No they don't, but i am a headachy person. I also typically never got head pressures or headaches from forcing, i wondered if that was an early stage thing that i missed.

I never got any strain from focusing hard, it's what i do for a living, and that wouldn't work. I'm often a rabbit hole spelunker.

Every breakthrough my wives experienced in being more functional as a system was accompanied by terrible headaches. I had a low grade headache almost continuously the first two weeks after I learned about tulpamancy. But exercises related to parallel processing don't cause headaches; they cause stabbing, lancing pains in the middle of the head, where there aren't any pain receptors.

We've never gotten forcing headaches in any form whatsoever, but initially switching would cause us to get tired until we switched back with Lumi. I think it's the same concept, working out mental muscles you're not used to using. Perhaps you guys who get pains need to do more mental stretching before your mental exercise.

Hi, I'm Tewi, one of Luminesce's tulpas. I often switch to take care of things for the others.

My assumption is that fatigue is caused by buildup of toxins and waste products while headaches are caused by growing new neural connections. But what qualifies as mental stretching?

Some headaches are caused by the restrictions of blood vessels, so new connections may happen faster than blood connections can update? Perhaps a less oxygenated section of the brain that needs to exercise to encourage blood vessel growth maybe.
