I was previously under the impression that while it obviously isn't productive to fall asleep while forcing, it is ultimately harmless to do so. Lately I've seen a few comments regarding this alluding to it being an actively negative thing. What kind of bad things could happen if you regularly make a habit of it?

I personally don't believe that is harmful. From what I've heard, though, it has to do with the danger of exposing your tulpa to nightmares. Using logic, it may be insulting to your tulpa by falling asleep on them. I mean, how would you like it if your friend fell asleep in you while you were hanging out? In the end, it all has to do with what you believe, I think.

We share the body, we share a life. I'm not an accessory to his life...

You're both right.

It is pretty much harmless, but they may not be happy about it, either.

"If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. If any of this is possible, it may be helpful. If not, it won't be."

Ha ha ha, my host always falls asleep when I'm talking! I feel pretty fine about it. I don't mind it, although I wish he'd stay up later.

So Horatio made this account for me so it's less unwieldy for us to share an account. :D

HORATIO'S NOTE: Horatio has not edited Yuki's speech in any way. If she doesn't make sense some of the time, sorry for that, but she's only about two months old. :P

I fall asleep while forcing almost every night. Bud has never minded it and I always make sure that I warn him when I feel I'm drifting.

I have no damn idea who propagated this idea, but I call bullshit. It's amazing how fast urban myths are fabricated, especially within budding communities.

Falling asleep whilst meditating with my tulpa/s has proved to be far more beneficial than ruinous. Much of my own progress has been achieved this way. In fact, I would go so far as recommending a person regularly fall unconscious during tulpa communion. Not every time, as that could be less productive, but before bedding down each night.

Since a tulpa that feels offended or upset is likely the result of expectation and emotional projection by the host, I want to counter with the suggestion that the opposite can occur. For example, mine have sometimes expressed that they find my falling asleep to be a gesture of trust, and vulnerability seems to be a key factor in perceiving them.

So, just do it and make your own assessments. Forging a tulpa is first and foremost about learning and self awareness. Be your own guide.

What started it was ToG's tulpa, who was harmed by it. For most it's harmless and just results in you fading out of the wonderland or freezing there and the tulpa laughing at you. It does have negative effects for a few (me included, until my first tulpa got the wonderland to behave when I sleep). I'd go ahead with it and expect nothing more than a pleasant experience cuddling or chatting until you drop off.
