If anyone's interested, I attempted this this evening. I wasn't trying to use it for imposition yet; I just decided to observe the effects. I wrote a post detailing my experience here.

Deluded myself into believing my imaginary friends were real, then deluded myself into thinking they weren’t. Whatever the case, the OG gang’s still here:

Host: fennec (they/them)

Tulpas: Alex (he/him) and Kayleigh (she/her)

Delete all memories of those who know my awkward past

I find I like to do open eye visualization and imagine my tulpa in a chair next to me, or sitting on my lap, but I don't intend to impose at this time. At other times it is in wonderland open eyed.

fennec -- interesting log. I hope you find something better than the hat for future attempts. In the past I've tried a sleep mask, which is nice because it's made to fit the contours of your nose, but I've always needed a blindfold on top as well, to hold it securely in place, and block light from seeping through.

I've also tried forcing in the closet. With a towel stuffed under the door, and a blanket draped over the top, and all the lights out in my bedroom, at night, it's completely dark without anything over my face. Unfortunately, I don't have space in there anymore because my girlfriend lives with me now, and she has these silly ideas about using closets to store stuff.

I noticed you had some trouble with written notes. I'm surprised you did as well as you did. I have a digital recorder that works well, and doesn't emit light. A cell phone can also work well, but you'll need a good recorder app, and an app to turn the screen light off. Be sure to test the recorder app in advance -- I tried half an hour blindfolded once, only to discover that my phone had only recorded the first two minutes.

Another alternative to a recorder app would be just calling yourself and leaving a message. I'm not sure if there's a limit on how long voicemails can be, but I think most phone lights go out on their own when you're making a call.

It might also be fun to try walking around the house blindfolded, feeling whatever objects you can find, and trying to visually "impose" them. Although in this blindfold experiment, the hallucinations usually came when the subjects were not engaged in a tactile activity, so this might be counterproductive.

There are also dark retreats where you can pay to be put in a dark place for a few days and brought food. I've wanted to do it so much for years, but I don't know if I'll ever get the chance.

Anyway, this is really neat stuff and I'll try to experiment with it myself in the next few days.
