You guys seem pretty mad, but I guess it deals with some history that I have not familiarized myself with, and I lack the interest to want to go in to that.

 

In either case, I can't lie and say I didn't scratch my head about this thread getting so long from a rather obvious piece of spam that I felt was better off being ignored and sinking to the bottom of the board, but that's just me. Maybe it's because I've been mentally exhausted for the past few months, but I haven't relearned the charm of the usual forum banter after stopping back in. But at the very least, I don't see any recent posts from tulpa-makers crowing about how horrible it is to make a tulpa and that you're committing some kind of evil when you do it. I know a decent level of contrarianism is to be expected here, especially with Mist 'n Mel around, but that sort of stuff pressed my buttons real hard, and I vamoosed quietly, with the hope folks would step back from their philosophical punch-ups and actually think about what they're saying. Hypocrisy has always been a pet peve of mine, especially blatant stuff like that.

I'll politely disagree with your denial of ego-inflation: euphemising such as mere discussion appears dishonest and hideously distasteful, especially when certain posts just sop of it like sweat and filth. I find it humourous you're bringing up the importance of comparing and exchanging views and not fighting over beliefs, when one of your confederates had delivered statements regarding conflict breeding strength and similar machismo. Yet I'll refrain from stepping upon more toes, as I'm certain the O.P. had intended for a collective gaffe of this nature to ferment.

Well, I'm not saying not a single person here is like that. All it would take is one and then I'd be wrong. But you referred to the whole of tulpa.info, and implied it was a very common thing. I disagree.

 

But I personally consider discussion like this paradoxically what people end up complaining about, so I try to avoid it.

To the assertion that nothing is gained from the discourse on these "random" threads I would like to point out we learned something very key today:

 

I love that "persistence in seeming to think" idea.  That is the best thing Melian and I got out of this today.  I think it totally helps us because we insist that even rp characters are thoughtforms.  Even if they seem to have thoughts or emotions, do those thoughts or emotions persist over a long period of time?  THAT is the distinguishing difference that is important.

 

Some don't seem to understand that challenging the consensus opinions and being a little probing and skeptical leads us somewhere. Each time we pick up something important. It may seem like useless ego stroking and posturing, but it is intellectual debate. It gets dirty and a little rough around the edges and yeah, a little irreverent. But we do get somewhere with it.

Also, it doesn’t seem like an intellectual debate as people are being paralyzed by their own intellect, and wondering why they’re even bothering to use reasoning in a thread where OP clearly created what you would call a non-starter discussion thread.

 

Also, everybody is using blanket statements, and end up creating their own benchmark of ‘correctness,’ which is why it’s easy to get the impression that one is rebelling against the populace, even though actually rebelling against said populace requires actually deconstructing their paradigm of this tulpa phenomenon. But, since we can’t really deconstruct, and have direct access to private, inner experiences of other minds, everyone can still have the liberty to enjoy the privacy of their mind either way.

I give my input on subjects people bring up, process theirs, and respond accordingly. I have nothing against anyone. Everything I try to 'teach' or influence others with is because I think it may help them, they are all free to reject what I say without reason. If it seems like they don't understand - and they expressed as much - I assume they have an interest in continuing the discussion, and so I'll try to clarify or expound. I also try to reduce friction and clarify misconceptions among members. The same can generally be said for all of us in this system, though there are of course going to be exceptions, because we're human.

Yeah, what happened to those types?  There were at least three of them in recent months.

I have no idea what you are talking about.  We recently gave the forum a couple of rounds of much needed hardcore skepticism, in our Living Imagination thread, but I think the worst is over.  It's there if anyone wants to read it and cry foul.  The rest is talking about things like median systems, plurality, and what types of things (IIA characters and rp characters) should be included in the class of thoughtforms and where and what are the distinguishing features of a thoughtform.   Where are the boundaries of tulpamancy?  What distinguishes a tulpa from other thoughtforms?  We have always been exploring that.  Seemed to us that few people had concrete answers to those questions.  

 

We are contrary when we see people make flat statements that are flawed in some way.  Assertions such as "tulpas do not have character sheets like literary characters or IIA characters" are flawed.  Tulpas certainly do have character profiles we work from.  It is a false assertion that there is no referencing of a character profile in tulpa interaction and tulpa expression.  Tulpas are not that different from IIA literary characters in that respect and to assert something like that is misleading, so we point it out.  Yeah maybe that is contrary a little to do that.  

 

Anyway, all the discussion today all coalesced for Melian and I to "persistence of apparent independent thought" to be the distinguishing feature of a tulpa over a more transient thoughtform like an IIA literary character or seasoned rp character.  

 

Thank you very much!  We don't do this just to be contrary.  We don't do it to just get attention.  We are thinking when we write and it is an intellectual exercise.  It may not be the deep philosophical dissertation that Linkzelda would love to see, but we are putting thought into the contrary diatribes I assure you.
