It occurs to me that the "Last one to post wins" thread is like a less topic-driven Chat Thread. Also people tend to go there to "chat" rather than here, because it has the added draw of "winning" the thread for a short time.

 

Also laptop's working fine now.

Speaking of topics and chat threads, I couldn't decide whether to put this in this thread, the last one to post thread or in to the Living Imagination bloggy thread thingy. But I'll go here since I don't post here very often.

 

Okay here it goes: I play the Taco Bell "Tell the Bell Game." Okay see my hostie goes to Taco Bell a lot and they have this survey sweepstakes thingy. You take your receipt and you go online to TellTheBell and like fill out a little survey and then it enters you into a $500 sweepstakes. I have entered lots of times (yesh I use my name as my screenname and Davie's name for contact). So far I haven't won zippo!

 

I am gonna win that some time and have $500 big ones.

Most people would read that last line and think "You'll probably have spent $500 before you ever win!", but at the end of the day, you've esssentially just been eating free Taco Bell for the last $500 in meals, so it really does comes out to a win

 

 

So I'm looking into a new desk. Something with a decent amount of space, 45 inches wide at minimum, hopefully 27-30 in depth? Looking into some like, studio-oriented desks, but I'm really not sure what to go for. All I do know is that my current one is quite literally falling apart. And is also a glass-top, which is sure as fuck not gonna fly for much longer.

 

Anyone have recommendations?

There are good reasons for it, namely to counter rootkits. The boot code (MBR or EFI file) is verfied on boot-up, and will refuse to boot if it can't verify it. Now, whether or not there are less-than-consumer-friendly reasons for it as well...

 

However, usually you can disable it in the BIOS, IIRC. But you have to make sure that it absolutely cannot be done from the OS, otherwise the virus could disable secure boot and install its rootkit anyway.

Check the odds. You won't. However, I still think it's a good thing to do because giving them feedback lets them get better at giving you food.

 

Also, IANAL but I think for any sort of competion either you are required to be over 18 to enter OR they have to provide an option to enter into the contest without any payment. Read the fine print!

Have you considered building a desk to your specifications?

 

I just use two black desks I got from Wal-Mart Incorporated (one for desk work and another for consumer electronics) and a fold-able plastic table for model building and electronics projects.

 

If I had the room and equipment, I would just purchase raw materials and make what I have to. Yet for now I rely upon minimalism, improvisation and basic modifications as well as modular expansion and storage for my needs. Instructables is a great place to look for inspiration regarding a variety of subjects.

You guys and your skepticism on my Taco Bell big win! I will show you all when we win the big bucks and get to flash it around like big shots! I am going to enter every contest like that we can. We won't buy anything extra that we don't normally buy, don't worry bout that. Silly peoples and their doubts about Melian.

The Giant spaghetti monster approves of no restaurant except Italian restaurants. Eating at taco bell will bring nothing but bad luck.

yet eating at Buca di Beppo will give you E. coli and over-charge you for an overall shitty dining experience. Olive Garden just becomes depressing after some point. If not giving patronage to these establishments will subject one's soul to a hereafter replete with flat beers and diseased hookers...it is worth it. Yet at least it's not Taco Bell.
