Blindfold Trick

ThunderClap

Question

So I ordered one of these recently, and I've found it helps greatly with visualization. Basically it produces the same Ganzfeld Effect that putting ping-pong balls over your eyes does.

Heres what you need to do once you have acquired one of these masks or something of the sort:

1. First, make sure the eye cover allows no external stimuli into your eyes. That means you should be able to look around and see no light. Preferable conditions would be inside of an already dark room (I.e: Your bedroom at night time.)

2. Earplugs or earbuds are recommended as it will eliminate any distractions from noise.

3. Try to visualize your tulpa, or your wonderland. You will notice this gets easier gradually.

4. If you start seeing little "colors" or floaty things, try and morph those into an image of your tulpa or make out your tulpa's form inside of these things.

(You also may get the illusion that there is light coming through the mask. I have found this to be very common.)

5. After maybe about 20 minutes or so, hallucination will be much easier, and the images you see will be more detailed.

A good time for this exercise is any where from 20 minutes to 3 hours. Make sure you have patience though, because vivid visuals will not come until you are some time into the session.

Possible side effects I have noticed:

  • Headaches (More so after 15 minutes)
  • Nausea after Extended Periods
  • Head pressure (to be expected)

The usual orange juice/cold showers remedy should clear these up. The headache after 20 minutes of the exercise lasted for 5-10 minutes, so longer headaches can be expected from longer sessions.

I am tempted to buy one of those masks and give it a try, it is similar to something I practise occasional anyway, so I am definitely going to give this a try.

I have done some experimenting with the Ganzfield effect, and I have found that the results are practically random, when it comes to results. I have gotten differing results, from absolutely nothing but a huge headache to really vivid visualization. I try to do it often enough.

So going off of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganzfeld_effect I'm guessing that the blindfold has to be one color, but doesn't have to be black? This is open-eye visualization right?

Also, does anyone have any ideas on what I could use as earplugs? I might just shove tissues into my ears, that probably won't work very well.

This seems like something that could be beneficial to me, thanks Thunderfap.

EDIT: Wait, now I see that at the bottom of your post it says "EDIT: Please read this article if you would like to learn more about closed-eye hallucination itself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed-eye_hallucination". So this is supposed to be closed eye? What would be the point of using a blindfold if you're going to do closed eye in a dark room? Second Edit: It also says "These types of hallucinations generally only occur when one's eyes are closed or when one is in a darkened room.", so maybe it is supposed to be open eye. I'm probably over thinking this, I should go to bed. Anyway, I generally prefer open eye, so I'm going to try doing this open eye within the next couple days.

So that you're blocking out light completely :D If you can open your eyes and see anything in your room (which would certainly be the case even at night without your light on unless you have worse night vision?) ITS NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Isn't visualization all about seeing with the mind's eye? i don't understand. why would one need this?

it's nicer to have stronger images though. Not everyone may be as good as you at producing vivid visualizations.

My lip hurts.

The more sensory deprivation, the easier it is. Ideally you'd use a sensory deprivation tank, and you'd be hallucinating pretty quickly.

The static will help, but you might not need it, and you might not be successful even with it.

Yes, this is a visualization technique/aid. It is just another way to get (in my opinion, more vivid) images in your mind's eye. It blocks out all external stimuli allowing you to hallucinate onto an "empty canvas."
