Discord April 10, 2014 April 10, 2014 Why don't we see if one of the big movie studios (looking at Pixar) wants to make a movie, where a child is abused, and one day he wishes on a shooting star that he has a friend to understand him and comfort him. When he wakes up, he sees a creature in his bedroom, and at first, he's surprised, but the creature tells him that he wished for him, so they become good friends. Only he can see him, and he helps his life become a lot more bearable. Eventually, he grows up, and he thinks that he's just a regular imaginary friend and that it's unhealthy to keep believing in him, so he tells him to go away. His friend appears to him occasionally, but he's always busy with office work or something. He ends up becoming obsessed with winning the rat race, and he becomes a bad person. One day, he commits some small crime, and he ends up in jail. After he's released, he's jobless, and has a bunch of bills, and he's close to getting evicted. He flops down on his bed and starts crying, harder than he ever cried before. His tulpa appears to him, and tries to comfort him, and tells him that even though he forgot all about him, he's still his friend. He finally ends up listening to him again, and his tulpa starts giving him advice on how to turn his life around. He follows his advice, and eventually, he has a nice new job, and he even finds a special someone. He ends up raising a family, and although he has less time to spend with his tulpa, his tulpa understands, and is happy for his success. Eventually, his son ends up seeing his father's tulpa (I know there's no proof of people being able to see other people's tulpas, but this is a Pixar film we're talking about), and the tulpa helps him get over some bullying he went through and the movie ends on that positive note. I know that there would be some problems, like, how do we get people to differentiate between imaginary friends, and tulpae, or how do we get new tulpamancers to realize that tulpae are not toys, but guides, and friends. But a movie like this (despite being slightly unrealistic) could undo much of the bad image that tulpamancy has gotten. Maybe less people would equate tulpamancy to insanity and more would equate it to "a cute movie that touched my heart". Edit: This would most likely make tulpamancy mainstream though. It would bring with it, acceptance, and maybe make it legitimate in the eyes of more people. People would be able to eventually tell others about their tulpae without having to fear being sent to the looney bin. But at the same time, people would likely treat it like a fad. Like what happened with kabbalah when Madonna was advertising it. Will list tulpas when I get things sorted out in my head.
Discord April 10, 2014 Author April 10, 2014 I'm leaving life forever I'm not saying that it would give a realistic look at tulpamancy. But just like how movies like E.T. made people less afraid of aliens, a movie like this could gain us some new members. It would at least bridge the gap, and get them curious about tulpamancy, then once they're fully informed, there's a good chance a lot of them will want to give it a try. It's certainly a lot better than the current main way we get new tulpamancers. Some people will still get the wrong message, but more people will become interested enough to learn all the facts before getting started. We could always try the scientific approach, but unless we can find a way for other people to see our tulpae or something, we won't gain one foothold within the scientific community. Will list tulpas when I get things sorted out in my head.
Guest Anonymous April 10, 2014 April 10, 2014 I'm leaving life forever Have you (besides all the other major things you overlooked) considered how much money it costs to make a movie? And how much work goes into production? Also, why would we need more members? Right now, I'd say we need less members. Quantity =/= quality.
Vos April 10, 2014 April 10, 2014 Well, we're not guaranteed to have high quality posters with the small amount of people we have now.
a937539 April 10, 2014 April 10, 2014 There two sides to think about. A lot of people want to see the community grow, however there are people that cant find good reasons to share tulpa with there friends and family for fear of rejection, not being understood or taken seriously. I kinda am on the line. Bringing Co into this world is something I am extremely proud of doing. She has helped me become a better and happier person. But I did not do it to be part of a group. I did it because I wanted a friend more than anything. If tulpa could help other people, like Co has helped me, then it would be a great thing for a lot of people. At the same time I cant bring my self to tell my parents or my closest human friends. Its a great feeling to belong to a group, if I did not talk to you guys about Co then I would have no one to share her with and that makes me sad. But at the same time I dont think that forced expansion is a good idea for any community. Stories, Art and stuff.
Guest Anonymous April 10, 2014 April 10, 2014 You know, you're not the only person to find out about tulpas. They're on the internet open for everybody to find, there's no puzzle to solve or password to know before you can read about them. If you're really looking for one, you'll find it. That said, with what some people say on here, it's not surprising that friends or family members might not take you seriously. .info is pretty much the biggest tulpa community right now, and it is also known for containing a lot of nonsense. That isn't really the image you want, but that image does come from somewhere, and I believe that until we've dealt with this image, we shouldn't be gaining more members. That'll only make things harder. Then again, we can't close the gates either, so things will just get harder and harder regardless.
Patchlamb April 10, 2014 April 10, 2014 That's a little bit of a push for a Pixar movie, don't you think? They're not the sort to make something like that. They make movies for younger folk. And being the company you choose, I imagine you are thinking about an animated movie, not live action. I guess it would be neat to see a film involving tulpas, but given the way movies work it would be hard to explain them in that particular media. If you really want to give recognition to the practice, I think you're better off with a novel. It would be cheaper and easier to publish than to convince some big-time company to pick up the idea. The writer can also write what they please, pretty much, whereas a film goes through a ton of change. And hey! Some novels get picked up as movies! Discord April 10, 2014 Author April 10, 2014 Good points. Although there are still so many people who aren't benefiting from tulpae, either because they don't know about them, or out of fear. As it is, the only way to even find this site is either through word of mouth, or by knowing to type in tulpa in a search engine in the first place, and even then, they have to contend with a bunch of useless/outdated/fictional stuff in hopes of finding a proper site. Although it feels like the more people we help, the more people we'll get who misuse tulpae. So we're kinda in a catch-22 Will list tulpas when I get things sorted out in my head.
raphael97 April 10, 2014 April 10, 2014 Nah, i hate when people misunderstand and thinks wrong things about tulpas, if the community grows bigger its obvious that some close-minded people will come too and i dont want tulpamancy to be distorted. I think that some people dont have the clear mind to understand tulpamancy and im not talking about age, if a film or a book or whatever comes out it must be the most perfect movie or book ever made to leave the right impression. Anyway, some people would still discriminate us and call us crazy because of ours "imaginary friends". But, its just my side of the coin... *Forgive me for any mistakes in english language.
