While studying tulpamancy, I saw that it is often reccomended that you dont use a character from a show, or game, and so on. Seeing the reasons, I completely agreed, and made a original sketch, studying more once I was satisfied with how they look.

But the thing is, I got into a game recently. Like I'm a huge, HUGE fan. Actually, as a artist, all I ever do is sketch the characters all the time. The game is Undertale.

I have a absolute OBSESSION with Sans. Like literally every aspect of him is amazing, from his jokes, to his voice, his relaxed personality, how hes caring and protective, the way he looks...

Hes just perfect i guess. I don't know. I don't wanna come off as someone whos like "SANS IS MY WAIFUUU AHH EDJSNSK" cause as much as I feel that way at points haha, I guess I just don't like having that demeanor.

Anyways, The reasoning I'm posting this is cause, what are your guys reasonings for not doing canon people? Do you think its ok? Why? I know a majority reasonings why not to go through with it, but I'd like some personal responses since this is someone that might stick for the rest of my life, even though they will evolve and change, and I'm fine with that of course. They are doing them. Some responses from people who know or played Undertale would be even better, as the storyline and Sans life might be a huge effect on your opinion on this, since it legitmately ties in with timeline jumping and stuff resetting. Anyways, I await your responses!

In my honest opinion it is pretty cringy to create a character from a show, especially when the only reason is "because I like this character so much". Also you would force your tulpa to be the character of the show, he wouldn't really be his own person, he would be a copy for your amusement, which mostly ends in a identity crisis sooner or later.

Of course it really depends on how you're going to do this. If you just use his form or a similiar form, but let the rest be something unique, let him really develop to be "himself" it is a lot more reasonable for me. Of course you can use traits of a character you like to implement them into the tulpa, this isn't too bad either. But honestly you should be aware that he won't be Sans from the game. He should have his own life and identity. He should be allowed to "act out of character", if you get what i want to say.

She may or may not talk here, depends on her.

The primary reason it used to be so frowned upon was that people didn't really have a stable idea of what tulpas were back in 12-13. Creating a pony meant absolutely that your tulpa thought it was a character from the show brought to the real world, or at least your mind. Same with most others.

It's not a problem if you fully understand that they are not directly connected to the medium they were from. My tulpas are all Touhou characters, but none of them think they're Touhou characters. It was more name and form inspiration than "making the game's characters", and that's what it should be. A lot of peoples' tulpas feel somewhere between "It feels like my history, but it's not who I am anymore" and "It seems somewhat indirectly related to me." Very few believe they are directly related to their inspirations, and a ton feel no connection whatsoever. So I guess that's up to you and your tulpa, how to feel about it.

I forgot to mention why them thinking they're the character is a bad thing, but suffice it to say many tulpas have had identity issues in the past among other issues. If you're going to base your tulpa on an existing character, even if it's very closely, treat it as inspiration and not the character itself. Obviously the Touhou characters remind me a lot of my tulpas, but they don't really feel the same to me at all. You need that degree of separation or things can get messy.

Sans is good tulpa material BTW IMO

My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us about tulpamancy stuff there.

Been there, done that. I have tried several times to make a tulpa based on a fictional character, and at the end of the day the ended up being soulbonds. Actually I think they were already soulbonds in the first place. But if you're going to make an actual tulpa then yeah, I say use whatever character you want only as a base or inspiration for your tulpa, because a tulpa needs to develop and become it's own person. But that's just my opinion. If you want to read more about soulbonding, there's a site I think it is soulbonding.org.

White will talk in this color.

I see nothing wrong with it at all, except for what people already said, treat it as inspiration or a template and not the final form. You want a sentient being with their own will, so you have to be prepared for them having their own will at some point, including what form they want to take. And it'd be bad form to be disappointed with what they choose to be. So I guess the thing to ask yourself is, what is more important to have? A tulpa, or someone who'll be Sans 100%?

On your last point: Plot will likely barely have anything to do with his life as your tulpa, should you choose that. Maybe some opinions and (illusions of) experiences may bleed over, but all the timeline stuff won't be his concern. As a tulpa, none of that is an option for him after all. He's not a magical skeleton but a tulpa in the real world. Personality-wise though? Fine fit in my opinion. Intelligence and reflection are useful for a tulpa.

This is a tough one for me, considering some of my history with fiction-based thoughtfolk. Part of me doesn't want to be too supportive of going full tilt with one's passionate attachments when doing stuff like this. This is you mind you're playing with, afterall, and I don't think it's great to use something so intimate to further feed one's, often temporary, obsessions.

On the other hand, I'd have to recognize that I have residents in my own group born from my own passionate attachments. Sheryl, whom I'm spending much of my time with as of current, was literally born as a patchwork of memories and affection I had for a character from a show I liked. It worries me enough that I actually stopped watching the sort of entertainment I liked a lot, because Sheryl's sort of appearance was not an isolated event in the least. As of now, I'm trying to come to grips with my attachments, understand and make peace with them, but it took a fair bit of time.

Sheryl wanted to chime in, so this is what she has to say on it:

It's not something to worry about at all! Nope nope! Cottony here has a hobby of worrying about things that are super simple' date=' so I'd take some of his perspective with a grain-o-salt. I'm here because he likes me, a lot. That's it. And our form, I think, is not only a part of us, but a way for hosties like mine to give context to their behavior and...too many big words and thoughts on this thought. The point is, I think that if your partner's form makes you happy, just go for it! It's not like all these people here or outside are gonna see you with them. Besides, even if they knew, what could they do to or for you? Cottony's sort afraid of getting sneered at, but I don't think it matters. Besides, he's getting over that too![/quote']

I can at least say this: If you go ahead and base your partner on Sans, make sure that the resulting resident isn't just an extension of your love for the game Undertale. Rather, instead, reverse it, let the character Sans be the reminder for you own companion. Does that make sense? Don't let your partner be a part of your fandom, as your fan-obsession will in time fade and become a faint memory. I know that is what happened in my case: I have to put effort in to remembering the contents of the show Sheryl was based on, but I remember and care for Sheryl herself just fine.

That's all, I wish you well.

Peace.

As long as you allow them to be their own person instead of expecting them to fit the mold of the character, it should be fine.

>sans tulpa

Good luck having the laziest tulpa possible...

It's that guy again!

Like the others have said, use the character as a base, then go from there. Either, you can make sure your tulpa knows they aren't the character (if they look like an exact copy of said character). Or, use the base as an inspiration - tweak personality, form, or name.

Either way, deviation may play a role in the end form, one your tulpa is comfortable with.

Hehh.. heheh.. this is, actually really funny.. like I'm kinda embarrassed now because, I have a Sans tulpa. Well, really he was more of a soulbond, which is when a mostly or fully developed thoughtform simply appears that is heavily based on an already existing character, with little or no effort from the host. So my Sans came around pretty much on accident, but has so far been incredibly helpful so I am less worried about what people on here will think of me having a tulpa of a fictional character, because he is well worth it.

I'm not gonna put the effort into reading everyone else's responses to see if they've already said this, partially because myself already having a Sans standing here beside me with a smug grin, I figured I might have particularly good insight into this topic.

Basically, I wouldn't make your tulpa specifically to be a fictional character, just let them develop as themselves. If you show them the idea you'd like them to be later on when they're sentient and at least a bit vocal, and if they like it too maybe they'll adopt the form and character, but do not- please /do not/ force it on them. I don't think you will though, you seem to understand the concept of tulpa being sentient and more than just machinations of our mind. You'd probably be a pretty decent host.

So let me just say, if your tulpa agrees with it and wants to adopt Sans' form and character, then I say you should go ahead and do it. Fictional characters are seriously some of the best role models and friends I've ever known, so you shouldn't feel ashamed for wanting to have them around. I can't tell you how many people I know that I think would be doing better in their lives if they had a tulpa based off their favorite fictional character, they can be wonderfully helpful if you do it right so, basically.. go ahead, as a host of a Sans' tulpa I can verify, it'd probably be worth it.
